Ok, I have 2 windows 7 machines, and I have largely been unsuccessful getting them to network natively.

Is there a simple program I can install and feed it programs so it will go from one to the other? It would be really nice to be able to not rip one computer apart to get the files on the other.

Generally, you can't just copy programs from one computer to another. When programs are "installed" they make changes to the computer on which they are installed and the other computer won't have those changes so the program(s) won't run on it.

You can copy "data", ie. pictures, word documents, songs, etc.

The simplest way to copy large amounts of data from one computer to another is a "null modem cable".

Yea poor wording. Here is the situation
I have 2 computers, one is an old one, still good, but old as hell, one is a brand new one. I don't want to have to rip 5 hdds out of the old one to transfer data to the new one if I have a choice. my deadline when the gpu gets here friday or monday to what method I use.

I would like it if I could copy all the files, and only move 1 hdd over that will be in it permanently rather than needing to spend several hours disassembling computers to transfer data, and If I can transfer the data before the deadline without interrupting normal use, that would be even better.

Any cable I could buy wont be here by tomorrow so that option isn't really available.

Fastest is to install new drive into old computer can copy stuff locally. Unless it is so old it doesnt have sata. Then you get a usb 2.0 hard drive dock.

If the OP is just looking to move files to new pc then I would just open the old computer (take side panel off), hook up new hard drive (it can be on the floor and dangling) with SATA and SATA power cables. Initialize, format and then copy all files from old drives to the new one (the files you want to use/have available in the new pc). When copy is complete then physically take out that new drive that you copied all that data to and install it into new pc. This is just for data and not for installed programs.

If you don't want to open your pc then just use an external HDD, either eSATA or USB3.0.

If you are on Win10 you can use Quick Assist to copy/paste files as you would using Remote Desktop. With Win 7, you still maybe able to turn on Remote Desktop if you are using a correct edition. Otherwise, there's always turning on file shares. It's been awhile, but even my GF back in the Windows Vista days was able to use the wizards to setup a file share between two computers at her home... I know that's pretty sexy. She was familiar with file shares used at her work.

alidan, is this what you are looking to accomplish?

you have bought a new PC and want to transfer your existing setup completely, without need to reinstall everything

If so, then you'll want to follow the instructions here. Be sure to read it in its entirety before you start.

able to elaborate?

Data Terminating Equipment (DTE) or end devices need a crossover cable to directly communicate with one another. However, PCs (through their NICs) can auto-negotiate a connection. So, it doesn't matter if you use a crossover cable or a straight-through cable as the device will adjust to allow the user to use either cable. This is with the assumption that both your ethernet ports are Gigabit Ethernet. Gigabit Ethernet was created with a widely used option called Auto-MDIX (automatic medium-dependent interface crossover). This technology detects whether you need a crossover cable or a straight-through cable, and it automatically configures the network interface card accordingly. If you don't have Gigabit on both ends then you'll need a crossover cable.

Here's a tutorial on setting things up. Ignore the crossover cable if you have Gigabit Ethernet on both ends: http://www.wikihow.com/Connect-Two-Computers-Together-with-an-Ethernet-Cable
