Hi guys,

I do not know much about how the custom works in Canada, so I ask you ATOT night crew for help.

My friend is in need of a new computer. She is currently planning on buying a dell from Dell Canada. We all know that Dell Canada's computers are too expensive. I am able to get her a better machine here for $100 cheaper. It is going to be a Dell, but she is only a beginning user who only uses the computer for chatting, email, internet, and word processing.

Anyways, here is what I am wondering. Since she is coming to the states soon, I was wondering if I were to get her a computer for her to bring back to Canada, will she be stopped at customs and be forced a duty on it? Or is there an alternate way of getting a computer with monitor up to Canada without having to incur high shipping costs or high duties.

Thanks for your help!

nothing that isnt illegal..unless you buy it for her, then you can mark as a gift...but even then, i think over a certian value you still have to pay import tax...

there is an area at the tunnel where you can probably squeeze a comp thru. i know alot of the guys get thru there. its a serve area for the tunnel. its about a 3 mile walk thru the tunnel and you have to do it at night with out flash lights or the sensors may pick up on you.

but just go slowly and feel your way along the wall and look out for the other people coming and going.

you will look for a pipe that looks like this about 50 feet to the right of the tunnel entrance

there is a fan on it but find the control panel and hit the yellow button, its on a timer so you will have 2 minutes to get past the fan before it starts back up.
test it once and time it to make sure they havent changed the timing on it.
but you should be able to get the comp and yourself thru there with the time it takes.
on the other side you will come you a Y in the tube, whatever you do dont go to the left, it takes you into the pumping room and if you slip down the wall your done because the water pressure will hold you at the grills on the bottom.

once you reach the end of the tunnel youll find a rusted area on your right that leads into a waist high area of water, follow the outside of the pipe until you get to a wooded area, then go thru the woods for about 100 yards and youll be on main street.
from there just go where you want.

If she stays for 4 days she can claim $200, 7 days $750...I would forget about packing a monitor, just to big. She can get good prices on monitors online in Canada like cancomputer.com and they will ship it. You could ship the monitor via USPS or FEDEX and claim a small amount for the value of the item. She would then have to pay duties, taxes on that amount only.
