Im planning on purchasing the antec p180 black since theres a black friday sale on it, and im wondering if its ok to just transfer the PSU that came with the case im using right now, its a raidmax scorpio 420W 12V power. I dont overclock or anything either. i have a a64 3000+ and pny 6600 256mb agp and some pny ram. Question is basically should i just stick with the psu i have now or just purchase another one?

Use the present case PSU as a backup and pickup a better PSU.
Fortron, Enermax, Seasonic comes to mind.
Corsair and Silverstone are excellent choices too.

also, i was reading some of the other threads regarding PSU's how and some people saying a PSU that has a higher wattage isnt always better. Also, are there any main things i should be on a lookout for when i choose a new PSU? Im into gaming and maybe some slight OCing in the future.

what is OCing? I'm also going to build a gaming PC, which are do you think the specifications of a PSU that I need to consider? Thanx..

Most Coolermaster PSUs are decent (some are rather good), but there's often better choices in the same price range. I can't say much more than that, as i haven't used a CM PSU myself.

OCing is Overclocking, and the specs for a PSU depend on the system it's being used in; if you list the PC you're looking to build, people will offer suggestions.

As for OP, have a read up here for info on PSUs. With your current PC, check out the Enhance ENP-5140GH, it should fit nicely.

The two most important specifications are 1)does it have the connections you'll need and 2)does it have enough power on the 12v rail?

ok ive been browsing the forums, reading people's reviews and narrowed it down to either the Enhance 5140GH or the Forton FSP400-60GLN. Which is more quiet or more reliable?

Of those two the Enhance is the better unit, probably quieter too.

If you want something better yet look at the Seasonic S12 and M12.

It will fit.

Modular PSUs are ones with detachable cables, that way you only plug in the ones you need rather than having spagetti lying around the inside of the case. Some PSUs are semi modular as the main ATX and a few others cannot be removed. There is some dislike due to contact resistance and a few other niggling points but such is life.
