Trapped In My Current Job

I pretty much hate going into work every day. It pays well and I know I am not getting shit canned anytime soon so it is stable. However, the environment there is just sucking the life out of me. There are not other opportunities out there right now so I can't leave. So I pretty much just have to man up and go through the motions until things improve.

Anyone else have to deal with this?

Move.

I went through this when I lived in rural PA. I had to move to another state, and not only am I enjoying my job and the area, but if something were to happen to my job, I could easily get another one.

Make your own opportunity? If you are really a motivated person you should have tons of business ideas in your head. Pick one and run with it. Even if you fail at least you can say you tried.

LOL, how long have you been working?

It happens to almost everyone in their working life. I've had this happen twice. What you do is be thankful that you have a job, and keep a stiff upper lip.

They don't call them "golden handcuffs" for nothing, particularly in this economy.

Sounds like life to me.

Not the most comforting thing a person could say, but it's about the most truthful. You just have to soldier on and keep your eyes and ears open for something that will do more to recharge you. The reality is that it's going to be a few years before people really start having the opportunity to move around between jobs again.

Hey...life's a bitch...then you get run over by one.

At least you're working in this economy. My county has a ~20% unemployment rate right now. Jobs are scarce.

1. Train/study hard.
2. Get certified.
3. Wait for better economy.
4. Find new job.

You pretty much summed up my life. At my age I'm stuck here.

That just sounds like work. It's called work, not super happy fun play time.

I know that sounds harsh, but it's the truth. On the flip side a wise man once told me you can choose your own attitude and most times if you're unhappy at your job, it's not the job, it's you.

I suppose you can take solace in the fact you have a job / income.

Not to say I don't have empathy with you.

I need a vacation.
blah.

This is supposed to be good enough, no not great, but certainly not worth bitching about given these economic times.

Most people feel this way.

Trapped due to upside down mortgage
Traped due to potential upward mobility
Trapped due to kids & wife

All in all, majority of people are trapped and not mobile due to the crappy economy!

I'm was in the same situation, but now I'm quitting to go to grad school. Hopefully the job market will have recovered by the time I graduate.

Sucking cock is no way to get ahead in life, son.

It's time you apply to Devry and then get a job cleaning keyboards.

Wait, you have a stable job which pays well? Stop feeling sorry for yourself and be glad that you have a job. If you really hate it that much, learn a new skill and try to get a job doing that.

Oh, and stop going through the motions. Do your job properly and with care for the sake of the people there who aren't miserable.
