Early July I'll be in Oxford UK for about 6 weeks. Does anyone have any ideas for what things a tourist might want to see and do? The only limits I'll have is that I won't have a car and will have to take public transportation everywhere.

I'm used to big cities since I grew up in Chicago, but I'm sure Oxford has it's share of quirks that will take getting used to.

I'd prefer not to get arrested on while abroad. The US Embassy might not like that.

Meh, nothing really to see in Oxford itself. Take a train to London and enjoy the English countryside.

BOOOOOR-ing! I doubt it would be a problem so long as afterward, you offer a pint of lager to your bespectacled victim.

I haven't been to England, though, so I can't actually offer any real advice.

have been to oxford and didn't like it. I like the atmosphere in cambridge a lot better.

oxford has not much to do, i take it as a day trip. the good thing is you can come to london very often, it is only 1 hour away.

get rid of your car to everywhere mentality, public transportation is very well developed in here. In fact, main street in oxford is pedestrianized with no cars allowed.

we can have a London ATOT'er meet up in london.

Yea, I read that Oxford and England in general have an extensive public transportation network. I figured I'd be spending a lot of time in London on the weekends anyway.

As for the meet up, I'd be fine with it as long as it happens between July and mid August.

^^
Just roam around for 1.5 hours. Go to the famous colleges and then head out of town.

Any ideas for what to do in London then?

I'll be staying in Oxford for five weeks and a half and London for another week, so hopefully I'll have enough time to do all the things I want to do.
