Some people are belt notchers. Some others probably find that kind of whirlwind tour a nice break from their daily lives. Personally, I like to travel alone, or with a very small group, and I like to go slow.

I rarely fly but I'm not big on Southwest with the "ABC" boarding cards crap, I'd rather go online and reserve a window seat so I can get the views. Sometimes people forget how lucky they are, we live in a magical time IMO, hurtling through the sky @500 MPH, the takeoff roll-out and thrust as the huge metal chariot is about to sling you through the sky and the sometimes awesome views are worth it to me. Yea, I could drive I-95 all the way to NE but it's a long, boring, dangerous, expensive way to get up there, If it were driving through something scenic like the painted desert then yea, drive it and enjoy. Traveling the east coast via I-95 though yields zero scenic views, just endless miles of tobacco fields and overpriced off-ramp dining..

If you are driving between Virginia & New York, take I-81 - one of the most scenic freeways around, especially in Virginia.

I'll travel hours in a small box to be able to spend days hiking around the Scottish Highlands, climbing through Castles in Wales\Ireland or sitting on a beach\catamaran in the Caribbean or Hawaii

Heh - there is one time I like their boarding process: When booking late and knowing Delta only has middle seats left I can still checkin at T-24 at Southwest and get an A boarding position

I dunno...at least on a C-141/C-130/C-17 you can get up and lay down on the deck for long flights and go to sleep.

I never understood the charm of seeing or visiting other countries and cities and all that. For me the bets vaccination is in cabin in a national park or a beach resort...

I just can't to it. I took one long trip (San Francisco to London) and that cured me. It wasn't the non-stop flight over, it was the return. Stopped at JFK to change planes (don't know why I chose that flight) and the second one sat on the icy tarmac with the engines idling for an hour and a half. The that kerosene smell pervaded the cabin and it made me really sick. From NYC to SF was the most miserable six hours I ever spent. I practically kissed the ground when I got off the plane. Haven't been on a international flight since.
