You seem to be under the assumption I support that and therefore will defend it.

Thats rather odd I say.

You equivocated. That's absurd.

I get why you don't want to defend it as it's indefensible, but it's a ridiculous position either way.

Fox News Sunday the closest thing Fox has to real news didn't cover the verdict.

They know their people want to ignore the issue of race.

Exactly. And its the worthless clickbait media and left/right wing extremists that make everything worse by inflaming passions when what we need are cool, calm heads.
Really and the attempted complete whitewashing of the jury was not a concern?
The defense using racist tropes to get one sympathetic juror to hang the jury wasn't a concern?
The defense characterizing Arbury like a runaway slave wasn't a concern.
The only reason these guys were convicted was the recording which was leaked with the opposite intent. No recording but only black witnesses those guys walk.
Local law enforcement covered the murder up. No reason for concern?

Keep your head in the sand

Arbury's killers being sentenced today.

Death penalty is not being sought. Prosecution is seeking life without parole.

Worth noting that Georgia code for murder (malice or felony) has 3 possibilities for sentence:
1. death
2. life without parole
3. life

Both McMichaels got Life without parole +20

William "Roddie" Bryan got Life with the possibility of parole...but I think that's a minimum of 30 years served, so it's not likely much different than the McMichaels. He'll be pretty old if still alive before he's ever up for review.

I'm sure all 3 will be filing appeals, but they also have the pending federal trial for hate crime.

Appeals in criminal cases succeed about 20% of the time. If there were no serious legal errors on the part of the judge at trial, and I didn't hear about any in the trial coverage, the chances are close to 0.

Someone on another forum was telling me that it was wrong of the judge to give jury instructions about how to understand a law when it wasn't settled via case law in an appellate court and instead the judge should only read the law as written if there isn't case law clarifying something. This is specifically regarding to the judge's instructions about applying the citizen's arrest statute. I could dig up the specific instruction in question if it helps, but not being a lawyer myself I didn't know if what they are saying about the principle is correct. This other forum is very conservative, so I always keep my tin foil hat on when I'm told something new.

I dont care if they appeal, just so long as they are in prison while waiting.
Also I blame Donald. He literally created a culture where it was OK to kill black people walking thru your neighborhood. This is party his fault.

I'd have to get more detail to evaluate whether this could be a viable ground for appeal. If you can link the instruction he gave, it might help.

For now, I will only say this. Error in instructing a jury is a somewhat plausible ground for appeal, depending entirely on how serious and prejudicial the error was. However, appellate courts work off a doctrine of cumulative error, meaning a single error usually won't be enough, but a combination of several errors prejudicing a defendant might.

The instructions referenced start at ~29:05

He reads the law and goes on to say essentially how they jury should understand the "within immediate knowledge" and "escaping a felony" portions. FWIW his instructions seem pretty obvious to me.

No, there's zero chance that is reversible error. If someone said it was on another forum, that person is ignorant or biased.

They got the book thrown at them because.... they know what they did.
You can analyze what happened all you want but the bottom line is.... you can not kill people just because you don't want them in your neighborhood. Even if the guy was snooping around in vacant houses or in open garages, that does not justify murder.

We all know what happened here, the jury knew what happened here, the judge knew what happened here, and the three murderers know what happened here. They just figured they could get away with it being the era of Donald Trump and living in the revival of bigotry and racism. But..... THEY WERE WRONG. Bye Bye rednecks. Better stock up on that lube....

They can file, but at this point their funds must be getting very low, considering how damming the evidence is any truthful lawyer would tell them don't waste your time or $$.

theres a lot of white supremacist groups who would probably be willing to fund their appeals, but I dont know if they would take money from them.

Anyone who defended these murderers feel the same way. We have some in this forum who defended their actions.

I dont recall seeing anyone straight up defend murder, at least not with this case.
I still think Kyle murdered two people and tons of people support him. The fact he got acquitted will definitely not deter future murderers.

OK, I went back and read from page one.
The very first thing Greenman said was "its very clearly murder" so it aint him.
And HumblePie & BrandonBull both said "theres no obvious evidence it was pure racism" which is also true.
But thats kinda the point about racism. You will rarely know for certain what was in someones heart when they did something. You cant normally judge intentions, only actions. And obviously the white men on trial would never say "I hate nigras" to the press or the judge because thats just incredibly stupid. There are some extremist groups out there who say they wanna kill blacks but never when they are talking to police. Its always when they are holding rallies and protests and such. Or posting on social media.
Based on Kyles social media posts he very clearly hates liberals but apparently that was not enough to convince a jury he went out to murder liberals.
So yeah, we can assume racism when it realistically is, but we can never prove it in court with absolute certainty. Thats why I think the hate crime investigation against them will probably turn up nothing. Unless they made social media posts that they wanted to kill black men, but those would have been discovered sometime in the last two years.

Go back and check out the people making excuses for the murderers. One even suggested it was Arbury's fault for resisting. That's why the title is spot on. I'm convinced if there had been a recording of the Trayvon Martin Zimmerman encounter, old George would have been found guilty.

@killster1 sympathizing with the murders because Arbury was stealing even there was no evidence to support

@HumblePie claiming 3 white guys with guns in a pickup truck chase down a black man the black man isn't supposed to consider that a threat, therefore the white guys were within their rights.

@HumblePie once again siding with the killers with no evidence.

And that is what pissed me off about the Martin case, if fucknut would have just either stayed in his vehicle or went home that teen would be alive today. We NEVER had any knowledge of how the confrontation actually started, just
a lying asshole who eventually sold the gun at auction for $135K.

Georgia deputy suspended over Facebook comment about Arbery

Engadget|36 minutes ago
A Georgia sheriff's deputy was suspended and faces being fired over comments posted on social media after a judge sentenced three white men to life imprisonment in the killing of Ahmaud Arbery, news outlets reported.
What u talkin' bout, Willis?
We don't have racists permeating police departments leading to systemic inequities

Reacting to a story on WGXA-TV's Facebook page after the men were sentenced on their murder convictions in the shooting of Arbery, a Black man who was jogging through a neighborhood, someone wrote: “That criminal arbery still got the death penalty though.”

Yes, I actually believe that cops think a black mans penalty for trespassing should be death, and it should be carried out in the street by armed civilians.

We seriously need to sweep away the bulk of police in America and replace them all with individuals who dont have anger issues.
