Trazodone? Anyone take it?

My doc described the side effects as being quite mild and quite few, but after researching it, there are quite a few undesirable effects in there, particularly on the heart.

He only prescribed 50mg, and Trazodone is typically used to treat depression with a starting dose of 100mg up to 300mg... so my dose is quite small. But still, the heart is one thing I don't like to fsck around with. I already get palps from time to time (usually when work gets stressful).

I wouldn't worry - trazodone at the dosage won't do anything bad. It'll just make you tired. I think its a smart move by the doctor, over some prescription-heroin like Ambien.

I'm actually using Ambien now. It works great... but he was actually surprised to have a patient ask not to use it long-term.

I need something that I can take, well, forever. With so little data on Ambien, I'm not comitting to that crap for more than a few weeks. I've been on it for 14 days and I'm about to switch over to the Trazodone. That is, if I'm not too pvssy to take it.

ambien is far far far far far far far far from RX-heroin. Not that hardcore of a drug at all. My buddy was rxed trazadone. If it works for ya, great! Don't be scared of ambien or sonata, there is PLENTY of info out there, and I would not fear gettign hopelessly hooked up one of those medications.

I took trazadone for about 3-4 years, starting when I had some slight trouble getting to sleep due to other medication. When I stopped taking the medication that gave me sleep problems, I stopped taking the Trazadone. Ever since, I get a nights sleep about every other night for the past five years. I don't know if it was the trazadone or not, but I am still dependent upon sleep aids to get to sleep (and I try to take them as infrequently as possible). The worst part was that I kept having to up the dosage of the trazadone for it to take effect. I started with 1/4 of a pill and ended up taking a whole pill by the time I stopped taking it.

My doctor said there is not enough data to support the notion of safe, long-term use.

Not really interested in "solving" the sleeping problem in this thread . My docs and I have spent the better part of a decade trying to, trust me. FWIW, I run 4 miles 4 times a week. People with "true" insomnia cannot sleep regardless of the circumstances... even extreme physical activity. Even when I'm worn to the bone, it's definitely no guarantee that I'm getting to sleep.

That sucks . I'm definitely not going to take more than 50mg... all of the potential side effects aren't worth it. I'm still not even sure if I'm going to try the ones I have.

Ambien isn't even the same type of drug as heroin.

Oxycodone and hydromorphone are prescription H.

I took Trazodone for a while and it worked pretty good for me, but I now use Valerian Root, which you can get at any GNC store. It helps you relax quite well and gives you pretty wacked-out dreams.

No sh*t, Sherlock. I referred to it as such becuase it has a clear recreational potential that the drug co. effectively manhandled the FDA into ignoring. Anyone who takes that drug ONCE knows exactly what I'm talking about. It is an extremely euphoric drug.

DigDug is right. While I didn't experience the euphoria, I did go from consciousness one minute to HELLO MORNING the next. The first night I took it I was just sitting there eating an Oreo and talking to my wife. In mid sentence, it hit me. I stopped what I was talking about, blurted out an "oh fvck", and I was gone. She said I wasn't totally unconscious and that for the next 30 minutes, we worked like hell together to get me upstairs and into bed, but I don't remember any of it. All I remember is the "oh fvck" followed by the sunrise.

Other nights I've taken it and it didn't do a damn thing. So not only can this drug vary widely from person to person, it can vary widely from dose to dose. It's definitely one of those drugs that has the potential for recreational use. If you're not responsible, you shouldn't be allowed anywhere near it.

I took it for about a year for sleep problems. Worked well and I had no side effects, allthough I don't recall the dosage I was on.

I'm sleep-aid free now.

Maybe taking it for a short time will help regulate your sleep cycle.

You could always try Melatonin (OTC in the vitamin aisle). Melatonin is naturally produced in the body anyway and is triggers sleep. Standard size is 3 mg but I have bought it in 1 mg size as well. Happy resting...

Trazadone can cause priapism or uncontrolled erection of the penis that can ONLY be treated with a needle into the glans penis to suck out the blood. Trust me its painfull, but lucikly for you rare.

Well, I'm only taking the Ambien every other night now (weening off of it). It's actually regulated my sleep cycle very well... the only thing that's been able to in ten years.

As for the melatonin, it's OTC success is purely psychological. Melatonin in pill-form does not cross the blood/brain barrier. For those who've found sleep via the M pill, it was simply the placebo effect. People whose sleep disorder is physiological cannot/will not benefit from melatonin use.

Sorry
