Included in the recall are 900,000 bikes in the U.S., and 98,000 sold in Canada, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. A quick-release lever on the bike's front-wheel hub can come into contact with the front disc brake assembly, resulting in either complete wheel separation or the wheel coming to an instant stop.

Three accidents were reported, and Trek said all included injuries, some to the face, a fractured wrist and one that resulted in the rider becoming a permanent quadriplegic.

Nah. It would just stick out on the side opposite the brake.

U ziptie it to what? And fwiw I've never has an issue with the qr pins

I've never had an issue with this, but now i have through axle so nothing for me to worry over.

The QR skewer folding back more than 180º and getting in to the disc brake is really, really bad but if your QR is open while riding you're probably in for a bad time already.

You would think it would be obvious to the rider if the quick-release lever could come in contact with something.

My Trek doesn't have disc brakes, but I always line up the quick release lever with the metal of the fork. I'm guessing this issue is when it's lined up away from the fork, and inclines inward somehow (which would normally be tightening, so it's strange).

You don't know the whole story... what if the QR lever got caught on something and unlatched itself then got stuck and caused the rider to go over the bars?

Never happened the whole time I've ridden for over a decade, but I can see that happening if you happen to land or bounce off a really tight area and get the lever caught on something. That would happen so fast you wouldn't even know what hit you.

never heard of that before

i just adjust the tension so it's fairly difficult to open up. hasn't come loose yet.

Never happened the whole time I've ridden for over a decade, but I can see that happening if you happen to land or bounce off a really tight area and get the lever caught on something. That would happen so fast you wouldn't even know what hit you.

I could see that in the woods/trails.

I'll check the Gary Fisher before my next ride.
