Tri-SLi worth it in this case?

Ok, long story short, I am currently running 2 EVGA GTX 780 SC's in SLi. After bailing my bro out (yes, literally), he is willing (and needing) to sell me one of his identical cards for $175. Question is, is it worth it to grab it and go tri-sli?


Mobo- Asus z87 Expert (Pretty sure its dual 8x or 8x4x4x in a tri setup)
CPU- i7 4790
RAM- 32GB
PSU- XFX pro1250
Playing at 1440p

You'd need a new motherboard, and likely watercooling if you go down that route. Until then, you're better off without it.

I think that depends on the games you play & your min. requirements @ 4k (ex. 4:4:4 @ 60).

I haven't seen anything yet that points to current gen. cards being able to meet my requirements @ 4k (that includes the 980), so the 780 is even further fetched.

I would suggest saving your $$$ for next gen. cards for 4k.

Well, I was unaware that 8x3 was required for tri-sli so I passed on the card. He begged me. I said $125, he said $140 so I said well, yeah I'll take it cause, thats a stupid good price from what I've seen. Luckily I have other machines it can go in since my board is...lacking. Anyhow, thanks for the advice peeps!

Don't rip your brother off, let him sell it for 250$ on e-bay, but if you have no qualms about it go for it.
UPDATE: I forgot that SLI has some stupid limitations that CF doesn't. I found a used Titan black with a watercooler on it but it won't work either. STUPID!
