I swear if I get concussion blasted one more time while I have the flag I'm going to break something. That thing feels so cheap

I agree. It really is gay you can drop the flag because of it. Then again, the speed at which I've seen some people get using the spinfusers explosion to propel them is staggering.

I don't know, I like nitrons overall. It sucks when I have the flag, but they are nice when I'm chasing. It does help some to discourage heavy capping, which I guess could either be good or bad depending on how you look at it. It also helps defend against those that are able to go ridiculously fast (you are only going to have one shot - a nitron lets the shot count), while simultaneous encouraging people to go faster (one shot is better than two or three).

And yes, spinfusers (and grenades) are great for gaining speed. You actually need to use them to get moving even moderately fast.

Awesome. Well, it's a pretty good value for $20 I think. Not sure I would spend more.

I might do the same. I've been playing it more than any of my full blown games in recent memory and it'd be worth it to me.

How many people do it? I'm one of the only people I've seen use that class for defense.

Downloaded the game overnight, will try it out some time today. Hoping it won't be me just dying over and over to people with far better reflexes like in Q3:A

well the good news for you is that they partition off the first few ranks in the queues so new players won't get thrown immediately into the fray with people who have been playing the game for months (unless they have a troll account and are that mean spirited that they'd want to dish on the noobs)

Nitrons were actually nerfed since the beta where they had a significantly larger AoE range. Now you actually have to have a good throw to land them on targets at range.

If you're losing the flag too much to nitrons, it probably means you are spending too much time on the ground with PTHs on your tail. Be smarter about using terrain to gain momentum so that you can save your jets for when they catch up to you. Then, use them to try and extend the amount of time between hitting terrain as much as possible, which will not only keep you in the air more (meaning they will probably waste some of their nitrons trying to MA you with them) but will also naturally mean you are hitting slopes from a higher drop, so you will gain quite a bit of speed.

Have you tried changing the FOV?

I did for a couple minutes but the wife kicked me off the computer to play swtor with her. Will try tonight. What should it be set at? I think I had it at default which was like 90.

I have no idea. Default of 90 is good for one monitor, but I imagine with 3 you'd want to consider 120 or something. Just experiment to see if it helps your issue at all.

In most of my matches, I tend to be the only PTH playing defense. I do it mostly because of nitrons and because I can get up to speed very quickly. Besides, only an idiot would try and MA with a nitron - but the flag carrier better not touch the ground because I guarantee you not only am I on their ass, that nitron is hitting the ground when they do. Very amusing to watch a flag carrier keep going like he has the flag only to freak out in mid air and get back to it by the time I recapture.

Unlocked Technician last night. I find I really rather enjoy playing defense.

I played that class for the first time last night as well. Definitely enjoyed it, and basically spent the whole game running from base turret to radar to generator to light turret back to base turret. Pretty much every time I got back to a unit I had repaired it was smoking again .

Anyone else played any Capture and Hold? I tried that last night, and it was fun. Definitely more engaging than straight TDM for me, but I still like CTF the best.

Technician is my favorite out of the six I currently have. Lately if I don't have to baby sit the base I'll fly through the enemies base and drop turrets. Sometimes you can kill 3-4 of them before they take it out. Plus I get a lot of points without even capping.

On its own it is a decent game, but if you've played the first or second one then it will feel awkward.

Honestly - it's not "too slow". It's the fact that the maps are MUCH bigger than Tribes 1 which make it feel slow because there's so much space to traverse - this was my main gripe with the beta (size of maps) that made it feel not like tribes.

If you think in terms of a much smaller bubble, I'd say it's actually a good bit faster than Tribes was, with the exception of the relative lack of utility to mortar/disc jumping. After playing for a while, it really began to grow on me from a Tribes standpoint. There's still a bit "too much" open area to cover, and it becomes readily apparent in CTF watching the flag cap routes go WAAAAAAAY out to the sides of the map. Oldskool Tribes, the cap routes were direct, and there were some pretty intense firefights in the middleground. In Ascend, most of the fighting is in short bursts at either cap point (for CTF at least).

Case in point: Most maps in the original Tribes, a heavy could mortar the enemy base from their own base. In Tribes: Ascend, a heavy generally has to traverse at least half the map for a mortar to even come close to hitting the enemy base.

But different != bad in this case. Ascend has a lot to offer.

120 does look better, but it's so "zoomed in" that i can't even see my weapons ammo readouts. Still trying to figure it out. Anyone else able to use multiple monitors with Tribes?

Had a strange problem happen twice now. Both times while playing sentinel. Hasn't happened playing any other class. At some point I use the 'Q' key to switch weapons and thereafter 'A' and 'W' act as "previous weapon" and "next weapon" and I can no longer move forward or to the left. I have to quit out of the game in order to reset it back. Just exiting the match doesn't do it. Has anyone else run into this issue?

Alright upon further review and playing CTF instead of Team Death Match the game is pretty damn good. I am going to throw down some money this weekend as a sign of appreciation for delivering a game in CTF that is close to the original in game play and feel.

lol... last night I was playing my last match of the night. Swapped out to sentinel on the ice map, and we were down to the last cap. I normally play defense, but things were getting boring up 4-1 and nobody red to be seen. So I took off to help with the last cap.

I ended up following our prospective flag carrier around the back of the enemy base as he zipped past can grabbed the flag. I figured I'd hang out and clean up the enemy deployed turrets and take out a couple of baddies camping. About 30 seconds later, I'm standing on top of the enemy bunker and our carrier dropped the flag and it was return... right in front of me. I merrily pick it up and take the valley route right down the middle back to my base expecting to be blown to kingdom come.

La la la... skiing along at a paltry 120km/h, nothing hitting me (we had a tank harassing the enemy base, which I think did well to keep crap off my back), I get back near my base just in time for someone to ski by and grab our flag. Ironically, I was in position to put 2 discs into his back, and returned the flag myself.

So I jet up to the top of my bunker and start waddling to my flag, and I'm literally like 1 meter away when some asshat skis on by right by my fact and snags our flag. I'm like WTF! I turn, swap to my thumper and gib him on the hill nearby... return our flag yet again - all the while still holding the enemy flag.

Third time is a charm. Though I had to be a bit careful as a jugg was dropping mortars on our flag. Still, I timed it right and dropped right on my flag right as a mortar landed at my feet. Game over.

I still haven't gotten my first cap. Came within a couple of feet last night and got asploded at the last second. Fortunately a teammate behind me grabbed it up and capped.

I realized why I'm having so much fun with this game, even though I never played Tribes 1 or 2. It reminds me of my favorite arena FPS game of all time: low-grav insta-gib CTF in UT3.

I enjoyed the game for a couple of days but sadly uninstalled it now. It is far too fast and twitchy for my reflexes. I like more tactical shooters with sniping and such. I unlocked the sentinel but trying to hit anything moving was absurdly difficult. Was never really good at Q3:A style gameplay.

Been running into aimbotters the past few days. I've played several TDM games featuring some guy getting 25-30 kills with an assault or sniper rifle. It's blatantly obvious when you fly over someone at 150 kph and they track you perfectly.

Can't understand why people would cheat in a multiplayer game. It's like asking for a piece of delicious cake and then throwing it in the garbage bin when nobody's looking.

edit: Anyway, does anyone know how long it takes to get from 12k xp to 100k xp from rank 8?
