Holy christ base rape with heavies tonight.



Part of that was me. I discovered how to be useful with heavies. I still hate their slow, cumbersome movements and like flying across maps, but I enjoyed the small time I had bombarding bases with the Jug. Which just adds to my love of the game... I'm able to switch between several different classes and still have a good time. Usually I hang on to a favorite loadout and make the best of it, but each class is different enough it's worth changing depending on how the fight is turning out.

I just downloaded this game, seems interesting. Graphics seem pretty solid and the movement feels really good. Does everyone use the defualt keyboard/mouse layout where RMB is jump and space is ski? Just curious if there's a more accepted config out there I should learn before this one gets too familiar.

I didn't change anything because it's not a generic FPS. IMO the movement controls are good where they are.

The only thing I've changed controls-wise is binding zoom to MB4. And to invert mouse, of course. :thumbsup: Otherwise, they're fine.

I felt more comfortable with Jump/Jet bound to space and RMB bound to Ski, but that's just me.

Playing a bit here and there, not worth spending any money on for me but it's nice having a game that supports more than the typical group of 4/5 people with my friends.

Anybody play with the bolt launcher on the pathfinder? I am thinking about unlocking it.

The damage difference is pretty appreciable, but your bolts 'drop' far more quickly and noticeably than the spinfusor discs, and it doesn't always make it as far as you expect (feels that way to me at least). So it's definitely much harder to 'snipe' turrets before going in if you ever try that and you don't have much chance of landing a long shot if you lose enough ground to your target.

Wish the spinfusor was available for the sentinel.

Technician is pretty nice with the thumper. But some of these games the base rape from heavies is too much for me to handle. Turrets dont do enough damage to heavies and die really fast.

Well with a direct hit to turrets the Spinfusor (with the +20% vs armored upgrade) does 920 damage or 770 vs a person.

The bolt launcher in that same situation does something like 12xx iirc (also with the +20% vs armored) so I think a direct hit with it probably does something like 150-200 more than the spinfusor; I'm not real certain what the exact numbers are for the launcher though so guessing here.

IMO it's not the damage delt that's the issue, it's how far the heavy weapons can go. I can mortar a base from a huge distance away with a Jug, much further than the turret can see. However I also feel like heavies are so slow that once a couple folks figure out where I am, I don't last very long.

In conclusion, I don't think anything should be changed (yet). The fact heavies can mortar from so far away is balanced by being slow and using energy fast. Sniper keep me moving enough that it's hard to stay on a long distance target, and any medium or light player can get the jump on me if they don't suck. They can stay airborne longer to my AOE weapons aren't worth much to me so I can't hit them easily until they hit the ground.

Agreed. Heavies are not really a problem out in the open for the reasons mentioned. Primarily they're just slow, and you can dance all around them splashing them with aoe until they finally die. But get a couple of them inside a base with fusion mortars and/or MIRVs, and maybe throw in an Inf with a Jackal, and it's damn hard to get that base back. Thing is, there's an answer in the game already, which is to spawn your own heavies/infs and send them in to take it back, but it seems like most people prefer swooping around the map at 180kph.

I just finished one of the longest fragfests I've been in yet. Some guy named Rampage kept grabbing our flag and camping the gen room, spamming fractal grenades. Those things are brutal.

Meh, tried to get into it again tonight. No interest. The whole level up thing only gets worse the longer the game is out. This is why these type of games don't last long. The design of them pretty much alienates casual and new players. There is no "noob" server so its just run clear across a big map only to get 1 shot and start over. Just not my thing.

I'm sure there's plenty who will say "that's how it's always been", maybe if you're still in highschool, but it wasn't. Level playing fields need to come back. The people with the money who actually buy stuff don't have that kind of time to invest.

So I just picked up the Plasma to see what all the fuss was about. I already thought it looked crazy overpowered in their trailer video, but figured they might just be really good.

One game later messing around with it and I realize I was completely and utterly right with my first assumption. I ended the game with 19 air mails and countless more midair shots that weren't kills...

The midair AOE on this thing is so ridiculous that they just HAVE to nerf it. It is just the ultimate troll weapon right now - people get so mad when you use it. This is made even worse by the fact you can only buy it with gold right now...

That thing is going to get nerfed. My technician survives longer vs mortars than the plasma gun. Fighting raiders in the open with my pathfinder didnt fair much better. It seems like it has a 10 foot wide footprint on where it can hit. It is an "I win" weapon right now.

Looking at their forums. Quite a few threads about the plasma rifle. There is an interesting thread discussing hitboxes. Some weapons have a generous hitbox, especially when moving. The Plasma rifle is even more generous than other weapons. These threads are showing screenshots of radiers with 40,50,60, or even close to 100 kills in a single CTF match lmao. Nice testing HiRez, break your game within a couple weeks of release.

The Plasma rifle is an I-win tool at the moment, but I still got plenty of kills last night. If I ran into someone camping the generator room with one, then I just respawn as a Jug and light the room up with the fusion mortar. On the open map I don't find them to be that much of a balance issue because I usually keep moving.

I mean I know as a jugg I'm not exactly the hardest target to hit but I can hold my own pretty damn good out in the open and at the very least make you really work for the kill, but with plasmas, good lord I've been killed so many times in midair yet never die in midair to anything else. At least this video explains it.

Makes me feel pretty good about my accuracy with the fusion mortar, I'm damn near surgical with that thing at long distances and can "snipe" with it way better then should be possible heh.
