Well for starters you'd be comparing a single player game to a competitive multiplayer game...
This is more like crying than a fair assessment of the game. Seems like you got owned so hard anything you're being killed with is to you considered spam. What's even more stupid about your inane blathering is how you cry that skiing is a one button push yet talk about how you can just download a script in the original...talk about contradictory.
I love skiing.
I'm not so great at the game, but it is fun skiing around trying to hit people
Seems like a rather large amount of time needed to get enough XP to unlock the higher level classes, and this is likely why i won't give them money.
I'd rather just spend $30 or so for a full game, not have to keep unlocking stuff forever.
You'd still have to grind. The whole game is $140 + whatever they release in the future. My issue with the grinding complaints are that it's a free to play game.
If you don't like the grind plunk down $30-50 buy some gold and buy some unlocks just as if you had paid for a normal box. I really think the model works out well most of the unlocks are sidegrades and the game is enjoyable even without them. Just my 2c though.
They made skiing "too easy" imho. Tribes 1, where it was a bug (so to speak) actually required skill to be able to ski, let along ski and fight at the same time. I just hold down the space bar all the time now unless I need to stop. It sort of takes all the fun out of it.
It's easy enough to keep moving, but you still need proper timing to get as fast as possible. If you hold space the whole time you lose your speed hitting uphills.
What's only available with gold?
My friends tried it out this weekend and are getting pretty into it, at least for now. I'm not really sold on it yet, I feel like the "everyone goes a hundred miles an hour and half the weapons are big fat AoEs to compensate" design is kind of poor. Never really liked the whole 'killstreak' bonus thing either, though at least there are a lot of ways to earn in the in-match credits beyond simply killing.
Though I do actually enjoy it in close quarters, like being inside some of the bases/generator rooms where it plays more like a traditional FPS.

I've found the Shriker works best as flag defense, otherwise I'm constantly getting the "Incoming missle!" message. I generally stay on my side of the map and own anyone brave enough to get the flag. It's so easy to chase people down with it, plus it's so satisfying to road kill the flag carrier in mid air
I unlocked a couple of perks that reduce vehicle cost and another that increases vehicle health so getting the vehicles is a lot easier now.
Easiest way to get xp is to get enough points for a tank and then guard your flag. The plane if you want to chase and can actually fly the thing. I always end up crashing it in like 5 seconds.
The rabbit mode is a good way to practice skiing.
