What is your favorite Class so far?

I'm enjoying the Doombringer.

When I first started playing, and had absolutely no clue what I was doing at all, I was drawn to the Pathfinder. As I started to get my bearing I spent some time as a Tech and then started to split my time between Sentinel and Doombringer.

These days though I'm all about the Pathfinder again. I recently got the thrust pack, and I've found chasing/light defense to be a very fun role. I do want to get back to capping at some point, as I was mostly focusing on that prior to getting the thrust pack, but frankly, I need some serious practice at getting some decent routes down.

Yeah, capping is tough in this game. I've had the flag nine or ten times, but only managed to cap three times. All were on my Pathfinder. I find the speed and low mass is a big asset in avoiding chasers.

I play the Jugg about 98% of the time. I even get a few flag caps a day with him now, it is both sad and funny when that happens.

Yeah, sometimes chasers just... suck. Or they forget they already spinfusor and nitron jumped once recently and try to use the spinfusor again... not that I've ever done that.

I've done that at least three times. I never even tried to nitron jump. Might as well use those, since they don't seem to be good for much else. I've tried to use them for "deflagging" when chasing, but even when I land them close they don't seem to have an effect.

As for killing jugs, whether they are carrying the flag or not, I have to shoot them three or four times with the spinfusor, and most of them refuse to sit still, dammit.

Ha. Nitrons are pretty good for both speed and knocking the flag away from people. I've never had much of a problem thinking my nitron should hit when it doesn't. And they are pretty essential for stopping heavy capping.

They're just so immobile - but one decent shot from a Juggs spinfusor will end things pretty fast, and I may as well forget about it if they have the SMG.

Yeah I tried nitron jumping this afternoon. Got more speed and distance than with a spinfusor shot, and seemed to take less damage too.

I hate to call 'hacker'... .but

Ascend isn't Tribes. Yes it has T1's Raindance, and T2's Katabatic, and even Vengeance's whatever you call that map, but where the hell do all these guns come from? I'll rephrase that, where the hell do all these post-chaingun script guns come from? I tried the medium turret deployer, and was nailing people with the SMG with just spamming my aim.

Silly. Then a guy nails me with some caster every single time I get near his base ... I mean near as in on the same half of the map. The last time I just ski'ed into that area with FRAPS on, and lo and behold "You were killed by....".

Plasma is OP; too big of a hitbox, but something is going on with the bullet-based weapons also... no way I should be nailing fast moving cappers with a no-upgrade projectile gun like I am; and no way some heavy is supposed to have the same thing that nails anyone from huge distances easily (easily is not an exaggeration).

Done with it. Fingers crossed for Tribes 4.

they have been nerfed, a lot. and now they're only so-so and not really good enough to really justify playing Brute over another class.

basically the fractals used to be able to do damage to generators, so much so that 3 of them could easily take down a Mk4 gen meaning a Brute could easily make a suicide run on just about any gen D and be all but guaranteed to take it down. You also could carry 3 of them (without looter or safety third perks) as a base and that was bumped down to 2.

JamesV, I've probably played over a hundred matches at this point, and I haven't experienced anything like you've described. Maybe you got unlucky and really did encounter an aimbot, I don't know. But if someone is killing you repeatedly within "the same half of the map" you should have seen all the other players bitching about it in chat, because the maps are big and that doesn't happen.

They can be powerful, but it takes about 3 hits from full to kill me as a soldier, certainly not a single bolt.

Anybody else having trouble logging in? The launcher tells me the servers are up, but when I go to log in, it just hangs for a bit and tells me "unable to connect to server."

New patch.

Hiked the gold prices. I bought a 29.99$ pack which gave me a 30 day booster and 3000 gold. Now 30$ only gets you the gold, no booster for a -200 gold difference.
Did the 50$ come with a 90 day or a 30 day I can't remember (To the great benefit of Hi-Rez studios). I'd like to see how that changed too.

Ah my calculations are correct. Surprisingly, the 50$ is a way better deal now! Sweet. At least I didn't buy that one 5 days ago.

A couple of useful stats based on the latest update. The changes are to the $29.99 and $49.99 packages.
Old gold prices
$29.99 - 3000g with 30 day booster - $1.00 per 100 gold
$49.99 - 5500g with 60 day booster - $0.91 per 100 gold
New gold prices
$29.99 - 4000g (no booster) - $0.75 per 100 gold
$49.99 - 7500g (no booster) - $0.66 per 100 gold
Now what happens if you buy a booster to bring the package back to it's original contents?
$29.99 - 4000g-1200g (30 day booster) = 2800g. -200g value from old package
$49.99 - 7500g-2400g (90 day booster) = 5100g +1100g value from old package + 30 days additional boost
Essentially, the $49.99 package is now ridiculously good value, bearing in mind that no 60 day boost actually exists for purchase (it's either 30 day or 90 day and 90 day costs the same as 2 30 days would). The $29.99 package on the other hand is only good value if you're not looking to get the booster.

I broke down and bought some gold. Its too much fun.

Seems to me that last few days people are more or less giving up on generator and base defense. I think it's way too easy for an infiltrator to sneak in and take out a lvl 4 generator with a few sticky grenades. Just seems like fewer people are willing to take the time to try and defend/repair the base, so I wonder if they shouldn't adjust the mechanic to make it more worthwhile.

Gens being down doesnt hurt as much as it maybe should, in the old games you could only spawn as a light with a blaster, disc and maybe a cg or nade launcher cant recall, but you didnt even have a pack. If your invos were down for a long time it sucked. Ascend you spawn fully outfitted so it doesnt matter as much if gens are killed. I do enjoy the game, though its not quite as epic as the first 2 when you consider the games they competed against at the time.

On regular servers, it doesn't hurt much. Vehicles aren't used that much. Turrets are annoying but aren't fast enough to be a huge issue. Really the only issue I have with it as a defender is I can't get the ammo regens.

However, I play on a custom server that has no turrets and no radar. BUT... it has free shrikes which are a huge advantage if you have a couple people that know how to use them. It gives a pretty good reason to keep your gen running.

W00t, some new maps in the patch. Looking forward to the new ctf map.

Edit: I like the Avatar giant tree vibe in Tartarus. Seems like a fun map. A little harder to keep speed up in the middle because you seem to have small hills or really big hills, but overall a nice addition.

Not sure about the multiple loadouts. Most people will like it I'm sure but to me it just seems like an extra step, and a step that does nothing for me until I spend some exp/gold to unlock the additional slots.

Bumping this back up to say: I started leveling the Doombringer and I was amazed at how useless the Saber is against Shrikes. It's pretty good against flying players, though .
