tricking my computer into going to the local loop-back when it sees my external IP

any idea how?

i want to have it so that when i link a file on my server (my computer) it goes to local loopback.

IE. when it sees http:/0.0.0.0./index.htm (assuming 0.0.0.0 was my external IP)

i want it to automatically go to http://127.0.0.1/index.htm

any idea how to do this guys?

There's no real way to do it, but there is one way you could achieve the same thing...

XP has the ability to put multiple IP's on the same NIC. You could assign your NIC the same address as is assigned to your router/firewall. Try to use a 255.255.255.255 mask, or at least a 255.255.255.252 mask. It might cause some really odd things to happen in your traceroutes, but that's about the only affect I can see it having.

You can edit the lmhost.sam file.... I am unsure if XP has this file! I have xp at home, but I am at work w/nt so I will check when I get home!


This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to NT computernames
(NetBIOS) names.
