trident gamepad driver problem

The drivers that come with the logic 3 PC trident pad slow down my computers performance in programs by about 30+ percent.

Using the standard windows 98 gamepad drivers (only 4 button support) no slowdown issues occur, so its definatly a problem with the 3rd party drivers supplied with the gamepad.
Due to the exclusive design of this pad (just like an N64 gamepad) I need drivers with 6 button support which win98 doesn't provide.

This happens with many applications and the performance hit can be visually confirmed so its not a case of programs reporting faulse FPS.

Has anyone else had similar problems?
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Are there other drivers on the net that allow 6 button support in Win98?

Thanks for the reply Patchy - i've now cured the problem!

To answer your question, yes I did try their website drivers - in fact i downloaded several drivers from various other sites that i thought would allow me to use the six buttons on the pad.

Most had the same performance hit, but eventually Saitek had the solution. An older beta version of their six button gamepad driver still caused me probs - until i managed to get hold of the final release version 2.1.

It cured the problem completely and also contains advice on how to configure a six button pad without using a specific driver at all.

Logic 3 (the makers of my pad) contacted me and know nothing about the problem. Many people with fast machines may not notice this terrible performance hit as i only realised when i had fps results displayed on my programs. The driver they supply is over 4 years old - unlike the Saitek one which has been constantly updated and works perfectly.

I know which company i'll buy products from in the future.
