LOL. Underarmor, the official gear for douchebags everywhere.

Work an accident scene in a NH winter, then tell me what'll work better. I'm all ears.

if its popular it must be worthless. There's obviously a better product available that nobody knows about that cost's 50% less.

There is actually stuff that's just as good. However, those companies don't market the hell out of it like Underarmor.

Exactly. This thread totally supports my point and other posters seem to agree to. I mean seriously, you think UA INVENTED thermals or wool or wicking synthetics? Give me a break. UA just marketed the hell out of it and put it on the backs of bouncers, Jersey Boys, muscle heads and all around DB's. If they actually had a performance or value advantage, I'd cut them some slack but I don't want to be associated with the people they cater to or their image. That's a personal opinion.

Pearl Izumi "SLICE THERMAFLEECE TIGHT" listed at $84.99 retail.

Nike long-sleeve training shirt - listed at $49.00 retail.

Not ringing the "value" bell here. I wear UA underneath, so nobody sees it anyway- "image" is not an issue. If someone can recommend a good base layer that I can comfortably wear all day (or all night), without breaking the bank, I'd love to hear about it. I don't think UA is the end-all of base layer clothing, but I am very happy with mine.

Patagonia does make good stuff- actually have some, but I wouldn't say it's far superior to UA. Maybe their newer products are- mine have been around a while.

Who the hell pays retail? 20% off REI coupon, $10 off $50 or $25 off $100 Sports Authority coupons, etc... REI and Sports Authority have also had 20% off Nike sales.

If you're looking for value, than look into REI branded stuff or Sierra Trading Post for discounted stuff.

No Sports Authority around here.

Manchester is the closest of those three, and is still over an hour's drive.

There is a Dick's Sporting Goods in Rutland VT- about an hour..that's probably the closest one.

I bought the cold gear 3.0. Probably the only reason I did was because I had gift cards to cabelas that I had, and there was nothing else there that I really needed. They are pretty decent and warm but I don't know how they rank compared to the others.

wouldn't any polypropylene garment suffice. I have some Nike Therma-Fit and Dry-Fit items that are nice but expensive.

I have a Underarmour knockoff shirt... I think the brand is Starter or something. Works fine.

Why do you feel like a tool for wearing Underarmour? They make solid stuff. Used to be all I'd wear for baseball.

You can always grab a knock off at Sports Authority or Big 5.

I hate layers, I find it's uncomfortable as it feels all tight and makes it hard to scratch if it itches somewhere (which is more often at this time of year due to dryness). I usually just wear jeans and long sleeves and a coat/mitts (and sometimes a tuque) if I plan to be outside in the cold for long. I remember high school, the stuff they had us do, like stand outside for 5 hours holding up a car wash sign. LOL

Please people, wear it for 8-12 hours straight and tell me what works. UA has worked better then other things I've tried.

What base layer did you try? 1.0, 2.0, etc.

If you can find a good price on it, their UA Metal leggings/shirt baselayer is AWESOME. I was able to pick up both pieces for $100 at the Boise Cabelas store back in October (normally $80 for each piece). Extremely warm stuff.

Army surplus Polypropylene underwear is very warm, and cheap. Heavy compared to anything underarmor though.

I actually didn't try a base layer (the numbered kind) I tried the unnumbered leggings that retail for 49$. Good stuff. That's the only option from ua that Big 5 had while I happened to be there. I tried comparable leggings from reebok and dolphin (the only other ones I could find there) and they weren't nearly as nice. I'll be taking some time this week to check out some of the other suggestions in this thread (those than I can, physically, anyways).

Starter's been around forever. I used to have a Michigan starter jacket in elementary school.
