Huh. Either this whole "RAID 0 + TRIM" issue is more complicated than we thought, or, more likely, intel just isn't very concerned about it. By my calculations, this situation is due to lack of competition in the cpu market, which is due to AMD's suckiness since 2006, which is due to...HECTOR RUIZ! In the future, tech companies that go bust will say "We got Hector Ruiz'ed".

Sorry guys, I haven't ranted about him in ages. That felt pretty good.

Dont you think its wierd all the big manufactors besides Intel doesnt have it either. Its anything but simple. And its not due to lack of competition.

@ Engineer:
Thanks for the welcome!

Fermando, I did the testing on my Biostar P67 board and it did NOT zero the data out using the latest OROM and RST driver. However, I did test on a single drive system and the file indeed had 00 00 00 00 after deleting the file and emptying the recycle bin. I tried several times on the P67 board with RAID 0 and it did not work.

That is no surprise for me, because I experienced the same with my Z68 RAID0 system.
Nevertheless thanks for the info, that the Trim support of RAID0 doesn't work with P67 chipset systems either. That seems to be valid for all 6-series chipsets.

See these threads as guides on the BIOS procedure (AMI BIOS for my board):

EDIT: English translated version (directly from the source) of the site translated below:

Here is a thread (translated) with all of the binaries for various OROMs already extracted:

There is no Google translation required anymore.

Here is the link to my English language guide about how to update an AHCI/RAID ROM module of a mainboard BIOS:

And here is the link to my new English language thread with download links to the most interesting and actual AHCI/RAID ROM modules of different chipset manufacturers:
http://www.win-lite.de/wbb/board208...m-modules-for-bios-modding-already-extracted/

Update 1:
Since today there is a new Intel RAID ROM version 11.5.0.1582 available. Maybe we will see some changes regarding the Trim support of RAID0 arrays.
I will test this version with my Z68 system, before I am going to build the Z77 one.

Update 2:
It was no problem to update the Intel RAID ROM version of the actual ASUS P8Z68-V BIOS to v11.5.0.1582 and to get the freshly modded BIOS flashed into the mainboard BIOS chip.
Result regarding my Trim support test: NEGATIVE (sector did not zeroed out).

What other "big manufacturers"? It's AMD and Intel. ARM and smaller proprietary systems are up and coming, but they're not there yet. And AMD can't do anything right these days. That leaves intel, and since their competitors are busy sucking, they have no incentive to devote serious resources to RAID 0 TRIM.

Ugh, sorry to hear that. It's great to have you here, however, and I look forward to the day that we can use your guides on our z68 mobos! Of course, the only reason many of us are still on z68 is that IVB is such a weak overclocker... hopefully Haswell will be better.

Here are good news for users with an Intel Z77 chipset mainboard and an SSD RAID0 array:
Trim/Unmap really works, if the users are running the required Intel RST(e) RAID ROM/Drivers combination (Intel RAID ROM v11.5.0.1414 or higher + Intel RST(e) drivers v11.5.0.1207 or higher).
After having successfully transfered my RAID0 array with all the data from my Z68 system into a Z77 one (manboard: ASUS P8Z77-V), I have redone the Trim tests with the same SSD's and the same Operating Systems and Data as with my Z68 system.
Result with the Z77 system:
About 30 Seconds after the delition of the JPG file the related sector showed just zeros (00 00 00 00...).

You can see the related screenshots >here<. The pictures were taken before and after the file delition with the Z77 system and - for comparison purpose - the test result with my Z68 system.
Note: These tests were made under Win8 x64. I will redo them under Win7 x64 tomorrow, but I have no doubt, that the result will be the same.

I'm experiencing massive memory leak in IAStorDataMgrSvc.exe in ROM v11.5.0.1414 (and 1582) with Intel RST drivers v11.5.0.1207 on P8Z68-V Pro
This process is loosing handles like crazy (tens of thousand per hour). Reinstalling changed nothing.
Am I alone?

No, that is a wellknown issue of the RST(e) software since v11.5.0.1184 and has nothing to do with the OROM or the drivers.
After having uninstalled the software (= RST Console) the memory leak will be stopped.

Today I could do the "Trim test" (see my previous posts) with an Intel Z77 RAID0 system under Win7 x64.
Result: Already some seconds after the delition of the JPG test file the exactly same offset area had zeroed out. You can see the related screenshots >here<.
So I can confirm the test results published earlier by the users btester and andressergio:
Trim/Unmap works even under Win7 within a RAID0 array of SSD's, but until now only on Intel Z77 chipset systems.
As I had already written earlier, there are 2 preconditions: The Intel RAID ROM and the Intel RAID drivers must both belong to the RST(e) v11.5 series.

It remains to be seen if 6 series of motherboards will be able to do TRIM for RAID 'if' they get the 11.5 ORom update. I loathe the idea of purchasing a Z77 mobo just to get this update for my RAID.

Unfortunately Intel are the masters at feature bending. There was no reason at all for the G1 not to receive TRIM enabled firmware.

That has already been confirmed by me: My Z68 chipset RAID0 system didn't let Trim/Unmap into the RAID, although I had updated the Intel RAID OROM to v11.5.0.1414 resp. v11.5.0.1582 and used the latest Intel RST(e) drivers 11.5.0.1207.
Everything changed regarding Trim after having replaced just the mainboard (and the CPU) by a Z77 chipset one.

Is it a different revision of the controller chip on the motherboard from the P67/z68 to the z77?

Although the Intel SATA RAID Controllers of both chipsets have the same DeviceID (DEV_2822 resp. DEV_282a), there must be a difference regarding the functionality.
By the way: The related Intel SATA AHCI Controllers of the 6-series and 7-series chipsets are not identical at all (6-series: DEV_1C02 resp. DEV_1C03; 7-series: DEV_1E02 resp. DEV_1E03).

All this to get Trim for my RAID......

wow your serious eh

i'm waiting for a haswell before a full rebuild TRIM or no TRIM will have to rely on Garbage collection.

I'm a bit behind on all this OROM and TRIM in RAID stuff. I have an Asus P8Z68-V LX running the latest BIOS. How do I work out my OROM?

It's probably v11.0.0.1339, because my ASUS P8Z68-V had this version too.
If you have set your onboard Intel SATA Controllers to "RAID", you can see the Intel RAID ROM version at startup and within the RST Console. If you are running your SSD/HDD in AHCI or IDE mode, you have to temporarily set the SATA Controllers to "RAID" mode und to press Crtl+I while rebooting.

Just checked and mine is indeed v11.0.0.1339.

Where does this leave me?

I just replaced the 8086_2822 RAID OROM Module, Same BIOS from ASUS otherwise

Yes it flashes the same

FYI: Don't use the 11.5.0.1207 RAID software, Intel pulled it last week, Use 11.2.0.1006 until Intel fixes the newer software
