i think JTB is known to have pretty good fares for airlines. however, i dont see their prices (after tax) to be different from those that expedia, orbitz, and the like offers.

My friend told me about them when i flew out there last year.

OH MAZI....if you're a ghibli fan(spirited away, mononoke), you should hit up the Ghibli museum in mikata, only a short train ride from tokyo...you have to buy the tix in advanced though...through JTB

we're looking at some really cheap ryokans...namely new koyo and kimi ryokan in tokyo. we then want to head to osaka and kyoto....but we haven't found places there yet...any good suggestions? Occasionally we might stay in a nice place, but mostly to keep the budget down, cheap is the word.

I stayed at the Matsubuya Ryokan in Kyoto for almost a month. I wonder if Hiyashi-San still remembers me after all it has been 18 years since I stayed there.

Sawanoya Ryokan in Tokyo is pretty good. It is located near the Ueno Area(Zoo) but both places have the toilets in the hall way...

bump because my wife and I are going to see her parents in June 2005....around the first week for two weeks.

The rainy season starts after that.

We are landing in Narita (you have to I think, NRT). Heading to Tokyo then her parents for a few days (in Shinzouka/Mt Fuji) then back.

Still trying to figure out the best rooms that can give me a Japanese experience.

Our next trip will probably be to see the horrors of Hiroshima (for those that don't know there is a wall there the is 'etched' which real shadows of those that died during the bomb drop) and other site-seeing that way...

Then we still want to get back and see the rural areas where some dogs that are way in demand in the US just run wild and go to hot springs.
