They should look to the wise and benevolent Diane Feinstein and seek to ban knives that can carry high capacity magazines.

I will be more informative than you:

The US homicide rate in 2010 was 4.2 per 100,000 which poorly contrasts to Canada's 1.6 for that same year.

Teach us? Upon violence? Such as deregulation and social carelessness to help dramatically increase rates in Canada to match yours?

No, sorry, on this subject of critical crime we are in quite a bit healthier state, and therefore much prefer to divert away from the crime status attained in the USA.

Oh look, another informative Canadian.

I'm for banning knives of every form if the government will cut up my food for me. I think I'm very deserving of this and it may in fact be a right I'm entitled to under the Constitution. (However dusty an old relic of a bygone era it may be.)

Why would you rush a knife-wielder? He's pretty much impotent from 3 feet away.

Look up the 21 foot rule. you are still not safe at 3 ft.

knee-jerk respondents have no place here, we are talking about thoughtful legislation aimed at still protecting the rights of responsible knife-wielders but curbing knife abuse and senseless death.

Kindly leave and take your blanket bans with you back south.

that is thoughtful and the corect response. We need to ban all knives.

It's actually a lot easier to rush a shooter reloading than a knife-wielder. You'll end up on his blade.

So you now agree that banning high capacity magazines and thus forcing a mass shooter to have lower capacity that requires more reloads and thus more time to rush and disarm him/her a good thing?

Rushing a shooter is a stupid thing to do unless you are concealed behind a blind corner in tight quarters.

It takes practically no time to reload unless your middle name is Fumbles.

looks more like fear to me

It's standard academic practice that when you quote someone, especially a rather famous author, you give them credit. Obviously Dominion Seraph was too stupid to know he was quoting Heinlein.

....and the prejudicial xenophobia comes out.

You seem to find it interesting that more murders are being committed with a knife in Canada, while I find it surprising you have a 7% increase in murders even with less efficient weapons being used and better health care availability.

Of course you're entitled to it! 'Promote the General Welfare..." See? If you can't eat that's not good, there's all the reason Congress needs to legislate this pressing problem away. These "assault knives" are even worse than "assault weapons (in reference to guns)", because unlike a sinisterly bad looking black handgun that even has a mere 7 rounds in it, these "assault knives" don't even need to be reloaded! Unlimited "ammo" OMG!!!

Well, what if shooters start carrying knives? That would be especially bad.

Nobody is being facetious. Banning pointy kitchen knives has been found to reduce knife violence.

Math isn't your thing is it?

Oh gosh, sorry for a mistake in typing. Here's what the headline said.
"Homicide rates in Canada rise 7%.........."

here's what I said:
"Why does Canada have a 7% and rising homicide rate"

I throw myself at the mercy of the grammar Nazi.

You should look up the 21 foot rule. The distance a police officer needs to identify the threat, classify it as warranting deadly force, draw his sidearm and shoot two rounds has no bearing whatsoever on the distance needed to be maintained to ensure relative safety.

Fucking forum full of morons.

It's standard academic practice that when you quote someone, especially a rather famous author, you give them credit.

Are there conservatards here? Yup. So we're obviously not in academia, now are we?
