What, climate change isn't a hoax or anything - the climate is *always* changing. Isn't that the current mantra - or am I behind the times?

The poor, well, a few programs for those who aren't 'able bodied'. Those not 'able minded' can screw themselves.
The climate is warming and we are 100% responsible for the change.

Guess I should have put a /rant or /s tag on that. My posting history is 100% at odds with the current Repub/MAGA 'position' on climate change.
climate change aka global warming is not PC. .. it is actually supposed to be called “climate variability” because it varied before man and will after 🤣

no republicans mostly don't believe in it or have a basic idea of what it might be but it'll be far from the truth. republicans will always be surprised when something happens to them too and not only the poor and minorities. an example fresh in my head would be some of the violent behaviour towards individuals of varying sexual and gender identities right now as a culture war with threat sbeing hurled against those minorities. the right wing assumes anyone left wing doesn't like guns and won't have guns but they'll pull a that wasn't supposed to happen to us once a person who's routinely harassed by them takes a defensive action against a belligerent who seems hellbent on physically accosting them. they'll then try to pass laws limiting the availability of weapons to these people, which is gun control, which is something they don't like. fucking idiots, the lot

They aren't necessarily idiots. They use the system in whatever way they can to benefit themselves and hurt "others".

It's their greatest "strength", and it is also small-d democrats' greatest weakness. Once the system itself is shredded of its ability to function and produce legitimate results, propping up the system any longer than necessary becomes part of the problem.

they're idiots because they don't realise the same rules can be used to limit them. simply take a look at their book bans and how the left got bibles and religious books banned from schools in some states.

Or shenanigans like what Wisconsin governor Tom Evers did. A funding plan for 2024-25 somehow, through line item vetos, became 2425 by striking out the 20 and the dash. This was supposed to be a $325 per pupil funding increase for two years that magically, through the power of partial vetos, became a 400 year increase.

I'm a proponent of increased funding for education. I believe our nation drastically under funds education. But the ability to do what Tom Evers did should not be allowed. It can, and will, be abused.

Tony lol and that ability came from the wisco gop because in their grand intelligence of which non exists they thought they were infallible and could never lose to a dirty dumb dem.

wisconsin is never on my radar but it was in the papers about a week or longer ago. I do think the republican passed rule and ability to do is stupid but heck they made their shit sandwich they can eat the damn thing now.

The real question here is when the Republicans finally accept that climate change is real, how will they blame the Democrats for it?

Here's a few ways off the top of my head...

“No one ever warned us that climate change would be a problem! Why didn’t Biden and the Woke Democrats try to wake us up to this?!?

“The Democrats knew that we would take an opposing view, so by trying to prevent climate change, they forced us to make it happen!”

“If those hippy environmentalist Democrats in the 70s had let us drill all the oil back then, we wouldn’t have any left to burn now! All the oil we’re burning now is their fault.

They will dig up a Democratic senator from the '30s who was friendly with the oil industry and hold him up as “proof” that “the Democrat Party is the party of pollution”, much like they dust off Robert Byrd’s corpse whenever they want to deny that today's white supremacists love the Republican party.

“We wanted to draft legislation to mitigate climate change, but Democrats were too focused on stuff like abortion and trans rights and healthcare.”

“If the Democrats weren’t discrediting themselves by telling so many other lies, we would have believed them when they were telling us the truth about climate change.”

“If the Democrats hadn’t wasted so much money on their handouts to special interests, we would have had the funds to address real problems like climate change.”

And of course...

“We are/were always right because woke woke, wokety woke woke woke”

Actually it will be.

To fix climate change we must further deregulate environmental policy and cut taxes for billionaires.

It's just weather you morons. And to prove it the other day it was colder than normal, so explain that? What about all the record snowfall this winter? Pfffftttt.
You mean the Earth's natural attempt to correct or at least stabilize global warming? Which is failing and causing new weather patterns in areas that have never had such whether before? Which is why we are seeing record low temperature and snow fall. It's also why areas that have never before seen snow, has seen snow.

I don't remember the exact specific from a lecture I came across a while ago from a professor on earth core temperature, but it was about the time it takes for the average temperature of the core of the earth to rise by 1 degree. If I recall correctly, it use to calculate out to be something like 1 billion years. Now it calculates out to be less than 100 thousand years.

Do you know the great thing about this climate-change debate? The really good thing? That climate will always win the argument... ALWAYS!

Oh sure, you can watch the Ted Cruz's talking on Fox about how fake climate-change is, or you can watch any number of other republicans on tv denying climate-change is real, but none of that matters. None of them talking heads matter. None of what they say matters because in the end the climate always wins. Climate-change is winning now by extreme heat and extreme flooding and soon to come extreme hurricanes and tornadoes. There are not enough Ted Cruz's in the world to talk this devastating weather away.

One day across America we will see Death Valley temps, and watch as towns and cities are torn away from floods hurricanes and tornadoes. Climate-change will always have the last laugh. The very last laugh. I don't know if I will be around when Washington DC hits 124F in the shade, but whatever republican congress is in charge at that time it will be up to them to deny it. And no doubt they will.

FUN FACT:
Did you know that in 124 degrees F you can fry a republican congressman's balls on the pavement? Sizzle sizzle....

Hey, the Koch brothers, particularly Charles, was very active raising money for republicans and various PACs and 'Institutes'. They were all fine by him, so long as they were pro-big business. Specifically - the oil business. Is it any wonder how things have turned out? How many years will it take to undo, uhm, 3 decades of programming? Too long I bet.

The joke's on you! Not only are his views fake, Ted's not even his real name!

Also, prove your little fun fact. Let's start with Senator Rafael Cruz's balls.

An as pointed out in ATOT, that has got to be the temp of the tarmac. Otherwise, people would be dropping like flies. Still terrible of course, wouldn't want to even walk from a bus to a terminal across the pavement there.
Most online sources have very flakey resources regarding wet bulb at extremely low humidity levels, but generally speaking yeah this is probably above 'wet bulb event' temps. This happens semi-regularly in summers in specific locations in places like India, China, and the middle east. Expect it to occur more frequently in more places.

Oh, okay. Thanks! Humans are a kind of 'wet bulbs' anyway. Interesting side note, when I was in Italy, I noticed that the Italians didn't sweat as much as me and the Mrs. They dealt with 90 degree, dry heat really well. At least compared to a couple of New Englanders. But, when it hit 37C in Rome, no one was happy.

To clarify, if this was an unknown term to you:

It's predicted that if there's extreme wet bulb conditions in a region (esp a high population density region) and power fails, theoretically hundreds of thousands to millions could die within a day.

Thank you. I did know. Ran that experiment in high school (dry bulb/wet bulb). Anyway, I also checked the Wikipedia article you posted earlier this morning - making sure I hadn't regressed to an idiot level understanding. My humans as 'wet-bulbs' comment was tongue-in-cheek.

And, it is one of the most dangerous risks to human life as we fail to adequately cut greenhouse emissions (that and floods). I was watching a anthropologist who specializes in climate change make the point that humans never developed in such a way to react to long term, slow moving threats (we eventually just roamed looking for better food and water resources, etc.). Education is the key - but in the US, the majority of people either don't trust, or do not understand researched based scientific evidence.

I haven't heard a single mention of living with climate change, who's taking the lead on it?

Climate change means more chaos. Bigger storms, hotter hots, colder colds. More variability in the system, changing weather patters, green areas becoming deserts, deserts flooding. How do you prepare for that?

Actually it will be.

To fix climate change we must further deregulate environmental policy and cut taxes for billionaires.

Let the free market correct for it. Surely people will stop buying products that cause global warming if only we deregulate the markets. Oh, except for anything that would compete with oil-based energy production, that we must ban so we don't get windmill cancer.

And awareness that even a healthy human body tends to fail within a few hours if it hits 95F wet bulb temp.

How fast will it hit this temp in Florida and Texas for the extended hours needed? Asking for a road construction worker who no longer is allowed water breaks.

Kind of what I'm getting at. As I recall, 2023 was the drop dead date (I think Greta and Al Gore both stated this). If corrections weren't made by then there was no stopping it. So here we are with runaway global warming and it seems like it's time to start planning for the new normal.

From CNN:

The $52.6 billion plan to save the NYC region from climate change

The New York and New Jersey Harbor and Tributaries Study, also known as the HATS study, looks at how to protect the NYC area from another Hurricane Sandy. The Army Corps of Engineers is recommending a $52.6 billion plan to protect the region from climate change including seawalls, levees and elevated promenades. Watch the video to find out more about what the plan entails and why the price tag is so high.

That's just one city, for 50 years of protection. Southern Florida is beyond hope. I imagine Miami is going to become an island behind sea walls - if they have any brains.
