Video games have historically been purchased by young males. NOBODY with any good business sense will remove (sex/attractive females) selling points. There is no doubt some horrible stupid games (i haven't read all 10 pages, but im sure Raplay has been mentioned) that need to be removed from HISTORY (that wouldn't be enough).. but seeing all women in games like this woman does? I guess the sad part is if she really see's it that way and has to live her life feeling that.

the world is full of ugly, why make stuff up to add to it? Again some of what she says is totally correct, most is exaggerated, its too bad,m a few good points mixed in a sea of crap really doesn't help your message get out. I start to wonder if she can stir enough controversy up it will gloss over the fact this woman got a ton of money to talk into a camera and hasn't done even close to what she promised for the money.

That doesn't change anything I said. Sex is a deeply ingrained part of the human condition, and for the gamer culture even moreso because historically they weren't getting laid and games were a fantasy outlet. Perhaps if women were more egalitarian in choosing who to sleep with instead of all chasing after the top 20% of males (as some studies have shown) then nerds may never have depended on this outlet. This really isn't about games, it's about far deeper societal and cultural issues, but Sarkeesian found an easy target to make a name on.

And women are ingrained to go after those alpha males as well but obviously an alpha male will reject the women they feel are not on their level. Basic natural selection.

Seems like all the SJW types are the statistical non-alpha women, who like the male nerds, can't get laid or find love. They often color their hair, take up specific social positions, etc I guess to get attention. Instead of actively seeking men on their level they try to shame all men in general since they've been rejected by alpha males. The non-alpha males and female just haven't found each other yet it seems and maybe then SJWs might be happy and the nerds would care less if sex is in their games or not.

I know it goes deeper than that, but I feel that this really might be part of the modern issue. Two groups rejected by the top, and one feels marginalized while the other finds another outlet to relieve reproductive desires.

And honestly, plenty of the SJW types are quite doable, but they are not going to get seconds when they are so obsessed with either shaming or destroying men, yet they sleep with them anyways in a continuing vicious cycle :whiste:

Also, sex sells both ways. While games may be a common topic of discussion to the nerdy SJWs, there seems to be little talk about how paranormal romance, romance, erotica and teen fiction novels often include shirtless studs on the cover. While there is no interaction, it certainly hints as to what is in the text and who the audience is. Just because it's in print and under the guise of literature, doesn't make it any better than what we see in games, TV, movies, comics, etc. Women of all ages (from teens to grandma!) eat that stuff up.

Yep. A lot of those romance novels are just porn... with extra romance story as a cover-up. I enjoyed a few for that reason. :whiste:

Yep, journalists are in bed with the publishers and the best way to wade through the BS and see the truth is from people like Angry Joe, TotalBiscuit, Boogie and others on youtube who either report on games or gaming culture and offer their own opinions. Most of my best information has come from forums and someone's personal quick review. I watch E3 and trailers but I have a hard time reading previews anymore on websites. I rely more on first hand accounts from people who are there and aren't working for a publishing company.

It's pretty bad when you treat the people who pay your bills with disrespect. That'll get you nowhere but bankrupt.

This has nothing to do with gaming, it's just how some people under the anonymity of the Internet operate to feel better about themselves. You can insert the name of any popular person on the Internet and they'll tell you that they have gotten the same kind of abuse.

Not saying it's right, but she is far from the first and far from being the last person to receive this kind of abuse.

But you are limiting this to females. This abuse is not gender/race or anything specific. The internet is full of trolls who live to hurt with words, and they dont pick or chose by anything other then what they are reading at the moment. making it a Gender based thing is incorrect. If you want to argue it all wrong, male/female/black/white.. then you might have something, she is making it about one gender, its not (the backlash).

I don't even bother with reviews any more, honestly. I catch some Twitch videos of people actually putting-in some time on the title and make my judgment then. This was great for Divine Divinity: Original Sin. I watched a decent amount and determined 'This is a game for me' and really enjoyed it. Reviews are such a joke now, game journalism was always a 'semi joke' to me, but now it's a complete joke.

After reading through the thread, I saw some great comments. Agree or not with the author in question, I am hoping this (among other things) helps drive some better plot mechanisms in games. As others pointed-out, a lot of modern games have a pretty lame plot often-time (e.g. Watch Dogs) but are a lot of fun to play. Here is to hoping better writing and plots are more common. I certainly don't mind some gratuitous stuff, but some more serious options would be great too. It's great to have choices.

Over in comics there has been a bunch of female "journalists" writing how sexist comics are and have the exact same 'bully' issues happening to them. There is a market for comics/graphic novels for women and girls. In Japan, there is manga for every demographic so there is no reason why it can't be the same here.

I'm inclined to tell people like her that instead of complaining so much, complain a little and actually go out and make games/comics/etc.

It's like women who complain about the lack of female engineers, and then go out and get sociology degrees.

The problem is calling this "abuse" in the first place.
