That doesn't change anything I said. Sex is a deeply ingrained part of the human condition, and for the gamer culture even moreso because historically they weren't getting laid and games were a fantasy outlet. Perhaps if women were more egalitarian in choosing who to sleep with instead of all chasing after the top 20% of males (as some studies have shown) then nerds may never have depended on this outlet. This really isn't about games, it's about far deeper societal and cultural issues, but Sarkeesian found an easy target to make a name on.
And women are ingrained to go after those alpha males as well but obviously an alpha male will reject the women they feel are not on their level. Basic natural selection.
Seems like all the SJW types are the statistical non-alpha women, who like the male nerds, can't get laid or find love. They often color their hair, take up specific social positions, etc I guess to get attention. Instead of actively seeking men on their level they try to shame all men in general since they've been rejected by alpha males. The non-alpha males and female just haven't found each other yet it seems and maybe then SJWs might be happy and the nerds would care less if sex is in their games or not.
I know it goes deeper than that, but I feel that this really might be part of the modern issue. Two groups rejected by the top, and one feels marginalized while the other finds another outlet.
There may be some truth to that.
Although in truth the alpha male probably slept with those women, then never called back.
Just because it's in print and under the guise of literature, doesn't make it any better than what we see in games, TV, movies, comics, etc. Women of all ages (from teens to grandma!) eat that stuff up.

As soon as you realize that she's not special in the abuse she's getting online it's gonna blow your mind.

A bunch of sad people living their pathetic lives and can only feel better by bringing another person down. This has nothing to do with gaming, it's just how some people under the anonymity of the Internet operate to feel better about themselves. You can insert the name of any popular person on the Internet and they'll tell you that they have gotten the same kind of abuse.
Not saying it's right, but she is far from the first and far from being the last person to receive this kind of abuse.
A very nice and thoughtful article on this subject.
Thankyou.
I never limited my response to females, or to just the gaming community. But you are limiting this to females. This abuse is not gender/race or anything specific. The internet is full of trolls who live to hurt with words, and they dont pick or chose by anything other then what they are reading at the moment. making it a Gender based thing is incorrect. If you want to argue it all wrong, male/female/black/white.. then you might have something, she is making it about one gender, its not (the backlash).
Quoting myself from my second paragraph. You can insert the name of any popular person on the Internet and they'll tell you that they have gotten the same kind of abuse.

Are women really singled out for abuse on the Internet—or is it more the case that Internet abuse of women, at least when committed by men, is singled out for special concern and opprobrium? Many feminists would argue that there are good reasons to treat it differently. Sexual slurs toward women evoke the threat of real-life sexual violence; they are also perceived as intended to “put a woman in her place” and tell her that her opinion is worthless because she is a woman. (A sexual slur toward a man is considered just a personal insult.) But the double standard also has overtones of traditional chivalry which views women as more delicate and deserving of consideration—while nastiness toward men is treated simply a part of the rough-and-tumble of public life, to be taken in stride and shrugged off.
It's interesting to see the video game market going through the same things as the comic book one. Over in comics there has been a bunch of female "journalists" writing how sexist comics are and have the exact same 'bully' issues happening to them. It's either really disturbing or very interesting how parallel the details are.

Whereas telling men to "check their privilege" is meant to spur thoughtful debate :hmm:
So feminists want special treatment because they are women...
What do you call wanting special treatment based on sex?
Um, where have I ever talked about telling men to check anything? And why do you consider abuse acceptable at all?
And yes, I'm calling out the abuse of one particular woman.
