For the future of SJW-influenced games one must look no further than the Mass Effect and Dragon Age series as examples, where at least one central character and love interest must be homosexual, and a homosexual relationship must be central to at least one subplot.

The difference being that Thompson viewed games as evil, and wanted them blocked from even being sold. Sarkeesian is arguing about how women in games are represented, and wants to see that improved.

Last I read there are more female gamers than male, although they remain more heavily biased toward "casual" games.

I get what you're saying. I also think you're giving this woman way too much power. One thing I've noticed from the comic side of things is while there's a huge movement to move towards equality, even bigger than I've seen over in games, is you still see the same stuff people like being sold. I doubt gaming would change all too much, if anything you'd get a few devs changing but only until they stop selling as much. There's a reason people keep seeing the same games over and over. I have a hard time believing that suddenly those devs that were afraid to break the mold they keep strip mining are suddenly going to shift to a even more unproven set of ideas.

(2) How is sneaking past strippers lazy writing? Or perhaps better put if you have to sneak past something in a game why are strippers a bad choice? Would sneaking past a feminist literature discussion instead have made the game better?

There are other problems with your complaining about "lazy writing".

In plenty of games the plot just doesn't matter much. Do you think people play Mario for its plot of rescuing the princess?

You kind of missed his point, dude. You could take the things she deplores - which are fairly innocuous anyway - and replace them with damned near anything even remotely common. You could even take the inevitable people calling you an idiot on the Internet, extrapolate that into widespread death threats so that you are "driven away from your home" (although sensibly, not to the point of filing a police report about kids being mean to you on the Internet), and use that to inflate the height of your own soap box.

There is one area on which I can congratulate Anita. It can't be easy to write gaming criticism without actually coming down from the cross. Unless she has voice recognition . . .

I don't know about you, but I play games to get away from real life. I can't stand the Sims or anything mundane like that. I want to take risks that I can't in real life, die a hundred deaths, shoot hundreds of terrorists in face, etc. So you know, when I had the opportunity to have some gay sex with an elf in Dragon Age, you better believe I gave him the night of his life.
