What's it like?

I'll be staying at TropicanaLV from Jan. 5 to Jan. 11.

I've stayed at the Trop in AC many times. No complaints here

Stayed there once and the vallet guys took all my money out of my ashtray, will never step foot in that shithole again. It was only lose change but still they did steal.

I was tired and on a roadtrip and that place was $40. I have no complaints, got wasted and roamed the strip and slept in a soft bed at the end of the night.

Tropicana is a good value. I mean it's not flashy, but I like it for the money, if you get a room for under 50 bucks. It's right next to everything. I usually play Poker at Excalibur, so I get a room at Tropicana or Excalibur.
Of course, if you are looking to impress someone, then get something more expensive, but room itself was fine when I stayed there. Plus when I am in Vegas, I usually get into my room maybe 4-5am and check out by 11am, so I don't really care about the room all that much.

There's a bed and a shower. The rooms are quite old, but better than Excalibur. Just use the room for sleep and shower, go elsewhere to eat/gamble/play.

Tropicana and Excalibur = crap. I was drunk coming out of a club and ended up in the same cab as my friends who were going back to tropicana. From the moment I walked in till the moment I walked out all I could smell in there was baked potato and chives. I would definitely pay the extra $$ to stay at a nicer place.

Tropicana probably smells like Terrible's when I was there. Looks Terrible and smells Terrible too! Tropicana, Excalibur, Palace Station are all very old places.

New Orleans I stayed the last 2 times I was there. Off-strip, yet close enough to the strip, and about a 5 minute drive away from chinatown. Went there in May and September for about $40-$50 a night. Will stay there again next year.

For some reason I just don't like staying on the strip.

There is upside to some of the older hotels, don't remember if it's the case for Tropicana.
They may not have the new low flow shower heads installed, which is a good thing.
For the money, Tropicana is one of the best deals, considering the location and pricing. It's kinda old, but if you just want a hotel room at a great location for a great price, it's the way to go, unless there are packages at other places.

Right now it's going through some money problems, but I'm trying to find where I saw that people complained of it overall that helped along with it, unless it was just anecdotal from friends, in which case, glad you liked your visit.

I swung by there when I was staying at the Sahara, so I cannot comment on the rooms, but the casino did seem kind of run down. Watch Fear and Loathing, as it is one of the places they stay.

Be sure to check out Bally's Paris. The ceiling is so beautiful, and it is just right down the strip from Tropicana.

I went in 2003. It was very stinky, and kinda boring. Like it's one of the older hotels there and it's not that fun. It's a low price. I mean if you aren't going to spend most of your time in there it's fine. But the only thing I didn't like as well as my family was that it was very stinky, and the rooms really weren't anything special compared to every other hotel in the world. When you get there you'll see what I was talking about when it comes to the smell. Like I don't even know how to describe it, it just had this unique smell to it but it wasn't pleasant. Good luck to you! My parents stayed at the Luxor this year (The pyramid looking thing) and they enjoyed it much more than the Tropicana. But Vegas is overall a great place so have fun!!

I'll spend most of my time at CES, an afterparty, or out drinking with friends, so the bed and shower thing was all I am worried about any way.

I'm already paying too much for three of the nights, so going somewhere else wouldn't make sense - especially since it's not like I am going to spend all day at the hotel...

LOL...yes, it does. unfortunately, i stay once every year for a pool tourney in may. good thing is that at least i get a 2br suite for the 10 days that i'm there.

That's a shame because they went through a bunch of renovations to make the place more eye-appealing with a vegas feel. It's actually fairly nice now. Borgata has been stealing away the customers from all of the casinos in AC.

Definately not a place to take a girl, but great for a few guys a drunken Vegas night. Nice Pool area, dead bugs in the hallway! Rooms in the towers are much nicer than the lower level ones....

What is the difference between the tower rooms and lower level ones?

I am not entirely sure I can upgrade the room, and don't know how much extra it will cost, but it never hurts to know...

Of the older hotels I've been to, I liked the Flamingo best. They had an awesome pool area. I've never stayed at the Tropicana though. I want to try Caesar's next time. Big money for the rooms, but I gotta see the "European Style" topless swimming pool. Yeah, I'm a perv.
