Trouble Defragmenting

First off, Im not sure if this is in the right section, if its not i apologize.

But recenetly i just cant defrag my Games hardrive, Theres about 80% fragmentation, i ran defragger, and only defragged like 2%. It's just ridiculous, ive also tried in safe mode to no avail. Any tips??? I have 25% free hardrive space on that hardrive so that cant be the problem.....

you could run the HDD manuf viability utility to check for bad sectors
defragging writes to RAM, if you dont have much RAM defrag will write to disc - causing restart.
also you will have to test ram Memtest 86+, and also use (free) Bysoft FreeRam sw to see how much RAM you actually have free

Have you scanned for spyware? What OS are you running? Try using a free third party defragmntor like O&O free edition.

To say that you have 25% free space on that drive so that can't be the problem isn't an entirely true statement. You don't have to just have the free space; you have to have the contiguous free space. A lot of folks found this out once they installed HL2.

It sounds like you simply need a third party defragger like that mentioned above.

You can try scheduling a defrag during the next reboot. This catches the computer before it's loaded into the desktop and all the background apps and other crap has had a chance to load up so it has the most possible resources to work with.

That defragmenter Lite didnt work, all it did was restart my computer twice and nothing else happened. I dont see what's gonig on here....
