Trouble getting heatsink on.

Right now Im trying to install the stock heatsink+fan that came with my AMD 64 3700+ and I can get one latch on then I have to apply a lot of pressure to get the to get the other latch close to getting on.

Is it normal to apply a decent ammount of pressure? because I'm scared I'm going to break something.

Are you sure that you have it sitting over the socket properly. I've never had any problems with AMD stock HSFs. They install with minimal effort.

I am assuming that "stalk" = Stock and "plan" = fan

Was typing in a rush , but yes thats what I ment.

Im looking at the manual it came with and mechBgon's tutorial on this and following exactly ow it tells me too.

Is the processor placed deep enough into the socket? Normally you'd have to put a slight amount of pressure only...

did you lift the lever to push the cpu in all the way.

Some do need you to put a pretty decent amount of pressure. If you're using a flathead screwdriver it makes it much easier.

make sure the chip is in the socket the right way and you have the heatsink on the right way. yes it does take some pressure. dont be a wuss about it... they are hard to really break

Hi, You got some pretty good advice here. A little more. The difficulty closing the levers is usually caused by using the "Heat transfer pad" supplied with some HS/Fan assemblies. It's about 1/16" thick. The pad will compress the first time and next time the levers will be relatively easy to operate. Most guys pull that thing off and use Heat Sink Compound. Luck, Jim

Just double check that that processor is seated correctly and that the heatsink/fan is also placed correctly. I wouldn't worry about the pressure, though. When I was helping a friend put together his system it took a good deal of pressure to get the hsf latched down onto his ASRock 939 w/ a 3200+. Good luck.
