Trouble in home Network, maximum speed of only 100 Mbps?

So I'm currently using a service of 200Mbps but I'm only getting 100 Mbps.

The strange thing is that the laptop I used can receive the 200 Mbps using the exact same cable that I'm using on my PC right now. However, the PC can only recieve 100 Mbps and seems to be limited.

I checked the configuration settings and both are set to 100 Mbps Full Duplex, (My pc actually has the option to do 1.0 Gbps Full Duplex but doesn't seem to work at all since it just appears as it's disconnected) but my PC is limited to 100 Mbps speed in status window, while my laptop appears as 1.0 Gbps.

I'm having a lot of trouble trying to figure out why and I don't think it's the ethernet card that's wrong here since I built my computer 6 months ago, and my laptop is 3 years old.

I have updated the latest drivers for my MOBO's LAN but it just seems weird that the speed is limited with the exact same cable.

The motherboard I used for my PC is an MSI Z170A Krait Gaming.

I'm not really savvy in terms of ethernet cards and networking overall so any information or help is really appreciated!!

Thank you

Sounds like a driver or setup issue on your network card. Have you tried auto instead of setting a speed?

That MSI has an Intel "gaming" Nic; a lot of the time there is an accompanying utility that will favor ping over bandwidth. See if Intel has something in PROset software for disabling or adjusting this setting. The laptop is probably using a Realtek nic that is real basic which could explain the difference. If software or even older drivers don't help the inboard nic you might have to install a good pic-e GigE or RMA the board.

Clearly something is limiting your PC to 100mpbs. Your motherboard's advertising brags about LAN surge protect junk-something. Perhaps that circuitry is now bunk. Regardless, I'd uninstall all Ethernet drivers. At that point your PC will have no Internet connection. Boot into 'Safe Mode' go to Device Manager and delete the NIC. Now let Windows boot.

If Windows has a driver built-in for it, it will install and check to see if that's GIG. Otherwise install the latest driver copied onto USB stick. Best of luck.
