Trouble installing win2k PLEASE HELP!!

I just formatted a comp of mine and I was about to install win2k first off it said it can't work in dos mode then someone told me that I should just go to the I386 dir and type winnt, I did that then it gave me another error msg it said "unable to install bootloader check hd..." etc. I know that the hd is fine because I have run checks on it before I formatted. Do you guys have any idea what is going on? and how I can fix the error?

Just boot from the CD

What I ended up doing was to boot on a ME disk, change to the Win2k cd, change to a dir on the cd that has makeboot.exe in it. Run that and it will make the boot disks for you, you will need 4 of them. Then boot onto the first and go from there.

Dude, go into the Bios (hold down delete when your computer is starting) and make your CD ROM your first boot device. Then restart and make sure your Win2k CD is in the CD ROM and you'll be good to go.

My win2k isn't bootable I already tried that, I will try making the bootdisks then I guess.

Thi s to ad to the problem, not excatly the same though.
I have 2 ata100 hds connected to the promise controller on my av7 m/b.
Win Me since sept, no problems. I bought the win2k pro cd, and can't install at all. it starts the setup but stops ,satting there is no hd.
iKnow there 's a fix for the ata100 ide controller and d/l ti but i can't install it if wni2k is not installed. I tried moving the second hd to the primary ide controller and the bios detects it as ata33 wich is fine. i tried to install win2 k to it, so i could apply the fix, but
the system locks up as soon as the cd boots. Any idea from the gurus out there?
I'd like to go around this os and learn it, heard so much good stuff about it.

Nutcase99, your copy of Win2K isn't warez? All Win2K(and NT 4.0) CDs I've ever seen have all been bootable.

I can second the problem that PAF007is having. I've got a Promise FasTrack raid controller with my setup. I started the setup from WinME which works fine with my controller. The startup of Win2k works, gives me the option to copy all the setup files to the HD which it does, then during the REBOOT, it fails out giving me an error that no BOOT DEVICE was detected. So far, nothing seems to work around the problem.

Oh, and my Win2k boots just fine. Same error. Install disk creation works fine. Same error.

Win2k runs great on my non-raid computer.

Okay, I fixed my problem, an OBTW, my FACTORY WIN2K also failed to boot, but not until it had screwed things up. ANYWAY:

I have the FasTrack installed and WIN2k booted fine the first time. But when it came time to hit the F6 key to load the FasTrack drivers, that is where the problems began. It started, copied the FasTrack drivers and all the files to the HD and then on the subsequent boot, failed, giving me the error that it couldn't detect a boot device.

I tried to boot to the CD again, and it failed. But I believe at this point that it was actually trying to load off the raid drives. I kept trying to reinstall with the same error everytime. Changed the boot order in bios, removed my SCSI Bios from booting and removed all my Mobo IDE ports. So all I had was the FasTrack. Still the BSOD and the boot device error.

Time to reformat the boot partition and start over. Went up on Promise.com and loaded the NEWEST drivers. I didn't think I needed them because I just bought my card. Copied all these new drivers over to a floppy, and this time, the CD booted like it was supposed to (hence why I believe it was seeking files on the raid drives). When it came time to hit F6, it did the exact same as last time, except I used the new Floppy instead of the one that came with the card. Eureeka! Blew right through and installed like it was supposed to.

Don't know if this will help anyone or not. But just go get the new drivers before installing. Don't assume that the new shiny disk has the newest stuffz. Mine didn't.

By the way How come i don't have the option for dma in cd rom properties???
They work fine with latest patch from Ms, but autoinsertion is on both my cddrives, and I don't like this feature, anyone please?:disgust:

My copy of w2k server isn't bootable either. You must make boot disk to install it. And since I got it direct from Microsoft, I'm pretty sure it's not warez.
