I was called to a business to yesterday to rid Virues and Spware. That got compleated with spysweeper, and AVG and some manual removals. This compnay has pos machines. The customer flashes a membership card to get on a court, or membership etc.
AFTER the Removal of virus and Spyware it was told to me that this has slowed down which it did. All the data is on the server website. Things I did.
1. Replace switch is was really broken and confirmed by bells south. and myself. The old switch was not reciving an ip address from the modem/router. Temporary I hooked those computers to the patch pannel before I got a new switch.
2. I wanted to download that pos software on to my laptop to see if the website is making it hang or was it us. I needed an old admin's password and when I got a hold of him it was not correct.
3. I tried surfing the web with that comptuer still slow but not as slow as when I'm loged on to the pos site.
4 un installed and re installed tcp/ip via regestry and installed it from 1394 inf file
5.Tried to put in firefox but it did not download all the pictures correctly. yet it was faster.
6. Was thinking of re installing ie but I didn't have my notes on me on the correct regestry file.
7. Took off firewall and popup killers.
8. I called the software company They said there servers were ok. They didn't give me a new password.
9.Called Bellsouth and did a speed test over 1000 on the download and 256 on the upload.
10. They don't have the disk or drivers for that computer. And they don't have the password to download new software.
Things I didn't do put in another nic card it's running on a usb nic. and reload the whole system.
This is a hp 350 mhz machine with 256ram and xp I know it's too much but thats is what I had to work with What I feel the boss will tell me it worked before I got rid of the virues 20+ and over 1000 spyware.
upload and download it's ok it's just surfing is where it hangs and then continues.
