Ok, I work part time at a fitness center that runs a member card scan-in software that utilizes two monitors. One is for the employee, and then facing outward on the desk is a monitor that shows an advertisement as well as member attendance info when someone scans a card.

The short of it is this -

It used to run on an old Dell pc with a video card that had dual monitor outs on it. We replaced that computer with a faster Dell with the same OS (XP) and used the same monitors, but we had to use a vga to usb adapter for the extended display (no 2nd display port). Now XP doesn't remember the settings after restarting the member software. Before it used to automatically open the ad window in the extended display. Now, it opens it on the primary where we have to drag it across to the other monitor, and even then it's no longer full screen as there is still the window bars around it.

For what it's worth the software is iGo which has no settings choices that pertain to this.

Is this because of the USB adapter? Or anyone have any suggestions of what to try?

I suggest you open the system up and see if it's got a free PCI-e slot. Then find a nice cheap video card with dual monitor support to pop in the slot. I assume the tower is a low profile one so you'll need a card that comes with a low profile bracket like this one.

But yes a good portion of your problem is the USB interface. If you have to stick with what you have then make sure the USB display is being detected by Windows in the video settings. Also make sure its set as the secondary display unless the Ad side is set as primary in the software.

One potential solution would be to install Ultramon which allows programs to be opened on specific monitors. You need to create a shortcut to the application, then from there it is as easy as right clicking and going to properties then going to the Ultramon tab and selecting the monitor which you want the program to open on. There are also options for opening the program in Fullscreen mode, which may or may not be compatible with your software thus fixing your 2nd problem.

Ultramon does cost money, but you could at least use the trial version to see if it fixes your problems then decide from there if you will pay for it. Displayfusion might do the same thing, and is a free solution, but I have no idea.
