Trouble with Netgear WGR614

I picked up a Netgear WGR614 v3 wireless router and the thing has been driving me nuts. It'll drop the connection (wired and wireless) every 6-10 hours (sometimes more often). I updated to the latest firmware and still have trouble.

I have the exact same router and have the same troubles.

My desktop is linked with a direct line connect to it and that works fine.

My friend, who uses the same router, has a wireless connection via his laptop and that keeps booting him off or results in slow downloads. It keeps saying something about a wireless network being detected, and when I try to reconnect it to the same network, it either immediatly doesn't connect or connects to drop it in 5 minutes.

I've tried resetting my router (by turning it off and unplugging it) along with my cable modem and it still happens.

Yes, if anyone else can help us it would be appreciated.

I just checked something on the same laptop thats been giving me problems.

I previously had a dial-up connection on it, and it reverted back to the default connection. I removed that default and so far the laptop seems to have become stable again.

All of my systems are broadband-only, thanks though.

I have heard of many problems like this with netgear routers and other brands. Have you checked that you don't have conflicting software ?

Mine drops the wireless connection on both my desktop (Dlink DWL520) and my laptop (Broadcom 54g), then drops the wired connection too, so I don't think it's that.

two families i do work for have the Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless G router....they continuously lose connections.

You may just have got a crappy one. It seems that is becoming more common.

It seems to be getting better over time, but if it drops one more time between now and the cutoff period for a return to CC, it's going back.
