Just built my pc i7 with the ASUS P6T mobo a few days ago and when I installed COD5 a couple of days ago and attempted to play the game it crashed right after loading the mission and before I could play the game.

That what was when I noticed that the epu-6 engine wasn't recognizing the card and I clicked the link from the epu-6 utility and every nVidia card is on the vendor support list and however; the list didn't not have the gtx285/295 listed but advises to download the latest driver and and SmartDoctor. So I downloaded both 182.06 driver from nVidia and the Asus SmartDoctor and the card is still not recognized.

In the system mangement under the display devices the gtx285 card is recognized.
I'm running xp pro 64 bit SP2

Any ideas and or experience of the same? Thanks in advance.

Is this the Deluxe version? I believe for all the Asus P6T seriies the latest bios version (1203 for the Deluxe) may solve this issue.

Thank you for your reply Thor, no it's the vanilla. Bios downloaded from the CD.

Edit: just looked at the Asus site and it appears that bios 0306 is the 1203 release but it came out a few days before.

Ok, saved version 0306 to desktop and extracted the file with ASUS updater on the cd and installed the new bios and the problem remains. Guess, I'll have to wait for ASUS to provide support for the cards.

Unless any other ideas?

Hmm, so what exactly is the problem, you cannot get any games to run?

Yes, so far that is the problem. All indications are that the p6t mobo does not support the gtx285/295 according to the vendor support list... yet knew of the a new bios update and the referrence to fix recognizing 4gigs ram and 295's in sli...

just ran furmark for the first time and I'm a newbie with this. Here's the results: ran furmark with xtreme burning mode and log gpu temps to 50,000 plus frames at 67-58 c constant with min fps 40; avg 43; max 44 with the card at stock clocks.

I would think this ok.

Have you tried any other games? Maybe re-install COD5. Directx latest version, the game should install this as well.

Just oc'd the card for the first time via evga precision tool, did a furmark bench at 60,000ms and had score 6383; min fps 85 avg 105, and max 140.

running Directx 9. i didn't recall the game asking to down load Directx when I installed it yesterday.

Don't have my older games.

I'm checking the cod5 site on Directx advisement, than I can look at doing a re-install.

Yeah, if you don't have any other games to test with, then it's a little hard to tell whether it's the card or the game.

I would leave the card at stock/default settings for now, until you get the game running. Then test overclock abilities of your card.

Just played a mission of COD5, and it sweet running on the GTX285, even at stock speeds.

That sounds sweet, hopefully I'll be able to experience it first hand. Thank you for taking some time to try and help me with this issue.

Take a look here and you will see what I mean: http://event.asus.com/mb/six_engine/

It will be nice when I can game as my other pc that's now on a kvm is an athlon 2100+ with a ti2100 card

Are there anyone experiencing this are or had this issue.

I wouldn't bother with EPU, as the GTX in 2D mode uses less power than in 3D mode.

Hey Thor, I just picked up a couple of games from circuit city... hellgate london and 007 quantum solace... I will install in a bitand see if the card is stable.

Is your system overclocked? Is your system stable? I would make sure you don't have other intervening issues before assuming the graphics card is bad. Have you tested 8-instances of Prime95 with success? Have you tested with single-channel memory to make sure it is not the culprit? There is a lot to check here before assuming the card is bad.

Could be a corrupted install/bad driver install. If everything is 100% stable, try a reinstall of Windows and test again.

My system is stock, haven't tried oc'ing yet.

I have not used prime95, how do I run that program?

Only have been running triple channel corsair dominator 2G x 3 and have not tried single channel, to do so whould I leave one stick in the first orange slot?

I have not tried to check for corrupted install/bad driver install. Was looking at Driver Cleaner Pro, if use that would I un-install just the nVidia drivers and re-install?

You can just google Prime95 and run it to get a pretty good idea your system is stable. It will stress the system and test the ram/cpu pretty vigorously. If you get any errors, try running it with just one RAM stick in the orange slot (2GB only) and test them out. I actually some of the same issues when I ordered my rig, and the culprit was one bad DDR3 module out of the three. Once I had that removed, the system worked great.

Thanks, I run Prime95 and post the results. One of the first things I did was to right click my computer and hit properties and it showed 6G recognized.

I would recommend trying a memory testing utility. Something that writes patterns of data to all memory locations and reads them back. http://www.memtest.org/ is one. Wikipedia covers several here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memtest86%2B

They are annoying because you need to boot into them - which is harder than just a program that you download and run. But I can picture a case where games are filling enough memory that they hit a bad bit and then crash, and yet the system seems stable for everything else because nothing else fills enough memory to hit the bad section.

Memtest86, made a cd from ISO and set boot in bios... how does it load... i turned the pc on it loaded from the os. On top of that, when I opened the cd contents the files are still in a folder and zipped???

Ended up using Driver Cleaner Pro 1.5 to remove just the 182.06 and downloaded from nVidia site. System crashed with COD5 at the begining of a mission with usual black screen, double red led indicators on the card as before with no reboot. Repeated above removal of the driver and installed 182.06 from eVGA website, still crashing.

Than did prime95... I have a stock cooler, I put all the fans on high in the antec 1200 prior to running and started the stress test with the testing of a "little bit of everything" lots of RAM. Ran it for 45 mins... when I was feeling periodically of the fan exhaust... Bigboy cool, top rear cool, one below it warm.

I wanted to check temp and I recalled seeing the probe it II utility on the ASUS cd and downloaded it/launched it... immediately I heard alarms and saw my cpu at 89, I never wanted to have this get that hot in no way shape or form. ***This all on me*** I appreciate all the advice I can get**** So I shut it down and decided to reboot and the cpu according to probe it II was now down to 39.

Two things, one, there were no errors in prime95 in the 45 min run time and was stable... even surfed the net while running.

Secondly, I've got to assume the chip was high 80's for the 45 min run.... with that assumption my chip should be ok, right...thoughts/experiences?

I know I've read fourms about these chips taking some heat.... but heck, I didn't want to be one of those advising personal knowledge, lol.

Heard from ASUS tech Support via email to my emailed query of this issue, and here is the reply, note: my card is an eVGA and the tech guy says call our RMA department??? Huh??? Awaiting reply from eVGA.

[Problem Description]
Just built my pc i7 with the ASUS P6T mobo a few days ago and when I installed

loading the mission and before I could play the game.

That what was when I noticed that the epu-6 engine wasn't recognizing the card and I
clicked the link from the epu-6 utility and every nVidia card is on the vendor support list
and however; the list didn't not have the gtx285/295 listed but advises to download the
latest driver and and SmartDoctor. So I downloaded both 182.06 driver from nVidia
and the Asus SmartDoctor and the card is still not recognized.

In the system mangement under the display devices the gtx285 card is recognized.
I'm running xp pro 64 bit SP2

I've since have tried two games and it crashes by going to a black screen and the
graphic card's light goes from green to red.

Thanks in advance.
Thanks,

You should download the iso. Then create a CD using an iso burner. This should install some Linux looking OS on it. Then reboot and set the BIOS to boot from the CD ahead of the hard disk, and then click to boot from the CD when the BIOS prompts you to when it comes up. You can do it from a USB stick too.

What did you mean when you said that the graphics card's light changes color? I don't have LED's on my video card - yours does?

Thanks for the response...Ok, I am at work...I saved to desktop and unzipped the file a folder comes up with a bunch of files, such as readme..ect. do I look for a run or setup file and unzip that... what are the exact instructions to create an ISO so I am doing it right? I pulled up my NERO Burning ROM and did a drop n drag ISO from that and burned.

Yes my eVGA card on the right rear bottom (fan side down) coner by the backplate has two side by side Large LED's that are green or red. My understanding is one is an indicator of the card running and the other is the source, ie. monitor (not sure which represents which).

I've only experienced double green's or red's. When the system black screens I get the double red's and as soon as I hit the pc reset button the card indicators are immediately green's.

You all's thoughts about my cpu hitting 89c as indicated by probe it II and possibly running this temp +- for 45 mins should be okay, right?

Also what does running Prime95 stable for 45 mins with passes and no errors tells me since it is suppose to be a brutual test? What would memtest86 tell me that Prime95 didn't?
