Troubleshooting Dinosaur... no beeps, nada...

We need some data off a proprietary program that only this one old PC we have will run so we've got to get it up and running again. It's not posting, no beeps, nada.

Started ABIT BH6 motherboard naked with reset CMOS and getting no beeps at all. I've tested the PSU with a dedicated tester and it's OK, but just in case I swapped in another tested one, so it's not PSU. Tried 3 CPUs (we believe are good), and have 4 sticks of SDRAM to choose from, but nada.

So, is it safe to say that it's the BH6 for sure? Unfortunately we don't have any other vintage MB's to choose from.

Anybody know where we can get a working BH6? The Brea tarpits are out of stock! ;-)

Have you tried a different power lead - and, without sounding sarcastic, that it is plugged in and the wall switch is on (sorry - but I've done it myself - I admit it)

I see that I should have noted that power is getting to the MB ... at least the CPU fan and PSU fan work when attempting to post. Other devices appear to be getting power as well when they're plugged in (before I started disconnecting everything to isolate stuff).

Longshot - but you could try posting on the WTB forums for the mobo.

And there's absolutely no way to use another computer to get the data? Like...you can't pop out the HD and put it into another computer?

Okay... have you cleared the CMOS?

Yes, reset/cleared CMOS via Abit jumper and pulled battery too.

Gotta be da MB huh?

Did you check ebay to see if someone is selling an identical board?

Well, I took a magnifying glass to the MB and just found a burnt component that I'm sure is the culprit. Don't know why I didn't see it before, especially the discoloration on the backside. Sorry to have wasted some of your time on this but appreciate the help always available here.

Now that I know it's the MB ... yes, I'm hitting ebay up for a replacement one. Slim pickings but me thinks I can find one or a similar one that will use all the peripherals I have the same way and get this PC back up and running.
