Troubleshooting HP Color Copier 190

Whenever I copy text with color illustrations, I get this 3/8" vertical lighten stripe on my copies. My text shows a little lightening of grayscale shading.

When coping color; pictures, photographs, magazines etc, no striping.

If I use the B&W copy switch, no vertical striping. When using color copy, the lightening of text color is noticeable. What's my solution to correct problem.

A vertical stripe, one that goes from top to bottom, would lead me to believe that you have a dirty scanner bed or something underneath your scanner bed glass. If the latter is the case, then it should show up whenever you copy something solid. A solid copy should illustrate the stripe.

Here's a reply I got via email yesterday.

Does this happen when printing the same thing? If so I would guess you have a spot of ink on the encoder strip. Clean it as shown at: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/Te...bjectID=bpd50646&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN paying attention to the warnings. It is a bit mode difficult to get to the encoder strip in the copier than shown but can be done with care.

If this happens only in copies you probably have some dust on the scanner sensor. I do not know how to open up the scanner assembly to clean it, you may need to have it serviced.

Hopefully, I can remedy this problem on my own. Shipping for servicing would'nt be practical, so careful handling is the next step.
