Troubleshooting my 3dMark2k1 crashes

Hi all,

3dMark2k1SE crashes in exactly the same place every time (a few seconds into the Low-detail Dragothic test).

How can I best go about troubleshooting this problem?

My relevant specs are:

Athlon 1.2GHz
512MB Crucial RAM
Epox 8K7A+
WinXP Home
ASUS GeForce3

Nvidia Det 41.09
AMD Miniport driver 533
Highpoint 370 driver 2.0.0919
VIA audio driver 5.2.3633

reinstall 3dmark...

does anything else crash?...any games and what not?....

I reinstalled 3dmark2k1, and it continues to crash in exactly the same spot, in the third test.

It's actually a freeze: the computer locks and needs to be cold restarted. I also think that the monitor gives a low whine when it freezes.

My computer will also intermitently freeze the same way in Warcraft 3.

I guess what I find most peculiar is that it locks up in exactly the same spot each time. That suggests to me that it might not be that my computer is a buggy pile of garbage, but that there's a specific problem that I might be able to fix. So can anyone tell me how to begin troubleshooting, to locate what's causing these freezes?

Neither my gfx card nor my processor are overclocked.

I should add:

I'm not so much asking you folks to tell me what's wrong with my computer, since that's probably pretty hard to do with the info I've given you.

What I'm really asking is, what steps should I take to identify the problem?

I've already run memtest to check my RAM, and that seems fine.

Also, I think that all of my drivers are up to date (I've listed them in the first post).

That's where my tech support ability runs out. What else should I do?

do you have another video card?.....

what's the wattage of your psu?

chk if this happens on a different video card...(i mean a weaker video card)...if it doesn't crash....then probably ur psu can't handle the geforce3.....and try downloading another detonator drivers....there's a ton of bugs in the 40 series.....some people can run 41.09 fine, while others keep crashing w/ them...some people can run other 4x.xx fine will others crash...stuff like that...

i owned a gf3 b4.....to me, the 23.11 drivers were the best for gf3...pretty much after the gf4 ti's came out...they never concentrated on optimizing their old cards...they always test and run their drivers on the newer gf4ti cards.... 23.11 had a ~100 point increase in 3dmark scores over the best 4x.xx driver i've tried (40.72 is the most stable among the 40's btw...)....

30 det's i hear was great for the gf3...but i never really tested them....i hear they still pump out 30 series det drivers...
