In 1955 a race car participating in the Le Mans race had an accident and went off the track and 83 people died and 120 injured. Yes, the car was going fast, it was a race after all, but the car only weighted about 2000 pounds.

Now, imagine someone driving a heavy tractor trailer and driving into a crowd at 100mph -- the death toll could easily exceed 300, 500, even a thousand. Put very simply, an attack like this would vastly exceed the carnage a lone gunman might do with an AR-15 -- exceed by a factor of 10 even.

So, even if we banned ALL firearms and managed to removed ALL firearms from circulation this type of event is still possible.

I suppose this is a reasonable reaction. I too am against firearms. I'm about as anti-gun as it gets. But yes, I am also looking forward to the day when you couldn't kill someone with a motorized vehicle if you wanted to.

Well, the fact that France conquered and colonized Algeria, Tunisia, Mali etc. may also have something to do with it. France has more citizens of North African/Arab descent than other European countries, even before Syrian immigrants came ashore.

Yes. When the French colonies became independent, a large number of Muslims from those colonies came to France.

While there are a lot of different factors, dating quite far back (including the 2005 riots) personally I would say the biggest problem is that a large number of muslim immigrants do not accept the new society and as a result their children and their children's children are unable to integrate into the new culture. No wonder then that some of these kids grow up and resent their current country.

This is just my personal observations here in Canada but in contrast to muslim immigrants, I've noticed that the Chinese, Korean, Indian communities (especially Sikhs) and other immigrants integrate and accept the society here quite well, esp. their children basically adopt the "Canadian" culture. In a generation or two, these families basically become western.
