Posted this in the software section and got no replies so trying here. I've been working on this for a week and can't get it to work.

I gave up on Ghost (some of you may have read my rant) and I bought TrueImage Workstation.

I have successfully made backups of all the computers on my office network with TrueImage and tested the images. Seems to work fine where Ghost failed miserably. I've given up on the NAS part of my external drive and am using it via USB 2.0. This because I can format NTFS and because the backup location must be local to use Acronis' automated server maintenance.

The backups I made were done using TrueImage Workstation locally on each machine. I can't get the server to work.

More specifically, when I go into the management console on the server to setup a backup for a remote machine running Agent, everything seems to go OK until I try to tell it the backup location. I should see in the file tree "Acronis Backup Servers">"My Computer">"Personal backup location". I see backup servers and my computer but there is no personal backup location listed in the tree and it won't let me choose the server. It is as if it is not setup. Can't figure out what would cause this.

The only thing I'm fairly sure of is that it is not firewall because I tried it with everything on dmz so I think I've fairly ruled that out.

Anyone use this and can help?

The main backup machine is an XP Pro machine, as are all the machines on the network. Oh, take it back, there is still one Win2000 machine but same problem.

Posted on the Acronis forum and got no response. I'm feeling like a leper.

Strange, this morning I opened Workstation from my computer (not the backup machine) and it saw the server. But I ran to the server and tried to access through the Manager and it didn't see it.

I am stumped and extremely frustrated because I'm having to manage all the files manually. The auto scheduling and file management is precisely why I bought the Workstation version.

frankly speaking you didn't answer my question. Do you have true image serverver version, which must be installed on the server machine? coz without server version you are not able to manage remote bacup tasks.

No, I have the Workstation version. According to the literature, the only difference between the Workstation version and the Server version is that Server supports Linux. Not an issue for me.

Workstation includes the "Backup Server" module and that is installed on the server machine. All modules are installed on the server machine. Local machines have Agent and TrueImage Local installed.

I tried installing Server on one of the local machines thinking that sometimes the local machine is really the server i.e. it is waiting for a call so it is the server. This didn't change anything.

yes, so in my office there are 3 servers and about 30-40 workstations, so we da a schedule backup once a week, so all of ours servers are windows based, and when the question emerged what kind of backup software to use, we decided using true image, so we bought true image server for windows version and 40 licences for our workstations, we made all thing what you wrote - backup server, remote backups and etc. and since then we have never any probs with it.
