I haven't been gaming for very long, which is why I'm a little sad to think I've already come to the end of what appears to be the great fps games for PC. I tried role-playing and all the rest, but couldn't get into it. These are the fps I have:

Alice
Undying
Max Payne
Heavy Metal
Half Life
Half Life: Opposing Force
Half Life: Blue Shift
MDK2
The Thing

I know there must be other good ones but am too lazy to research. Anyone have any good FPS suggestions? (Maybe another horror, like Undying?)

Medal of Honor
Soldier of Fortune 1 and 2
Operation Flashpoint
Unreal Tournament and UT2k3
Jedi Knight 2

I'm not a big PC gamer but I logged a lot of hours on those games

A couple mandatory titles missing from your list:

Wolfenstein
Unreal 2

and if you haven't finished them already:
Quake 1 and 2.
Especially good ol Quake 1 - be sure to get the GL version for hardware accel.

I forgot to add that I have Return to Castle Wolfenstein...but I haven't tried Unreal II yet. Definitely will give that a shot, as well as maybe a few of the others titles mentioned. A couple of people told me ALiens vs Predator II was good, but don't know if that's multiplayer or single player or what? Is it even an FPS?

Quake 1 GL w/ TeneBraE
Q2
Q3A and Q3A : Team Arena

Jedi Knight 2
UT2003
Unreal 2
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Deus Ex ( a bit RPGish, and lame graphics but great gameplay )
Counter Strike ( no story, and boring if u play it alone, but great multiplay )

Battlefield 1942. I haven't played anything else since it came out.

Also Operation Flashpoint is really good if you are more into single player games and No One Live Forever 1/2 deserve to be mentioned too.

My personal favorites:

Soldier of Fortune and SOF2
Jedi Knight 2
Wolfenstein
Deus Ex
Battlefield 1942
Serious Sam One & Two - these are a blast to play.

I should get Quake 1 and 2, since I have Quake III (also forgot to list that one.) And it seems Operation Flashpoint and Battlefield 1942 is a favorite, will definitely look into those. What about Aliens vs Predator 2? Is that a good single player game? Is it an FPS, or with different camera angles, like Nocturne? I'm curious because it's currently in Circuit City's bargain bin, but I don't wanna pay even 5 bucks if its gonna suck....any thoughts?

No One Lives Forever 1 and 2 and another vote for CounterStrike.

Aliens vs. Predator 2 for $5 is a steal and definitely worth it. The single player is fun and you should definitely shell out the $5 for it if you've every enjoyed any of those movies. Playing as the predator while cloaked is just unforgettable

Since you have HalfLife and all the expansions, get the Counter-Strike MOD for it. Also go to the Games Fusion website http://www.games-fusion.net/ and get the Fusion Pack 10. This updates all of the models and textures and really updates the look of the game. The best thing is, IT'S FREE!!!

Don't be afraid to play on-line. Ignore the noob insults. Everyone was a noob once. It's really great to get some kills on those (all high and mighty) guys.

Someone above mentioned one I forgot about:

Serious Sam

Man it's fun fun fun fun. Pick this up for sure - you should be able to find it for like 9.95 these days. It's the exact opposite of most shooters these days: It's simplistic, fast paced with droves and droves of monsters (You will have to learn to "Herd" some of them)

Quake 1, again is another classic. Best played in the dark of night.

Much oblige all! On my list now is

Quake 1 & 2
Operation Flashpoint
Aliens vs Predator 2
Serious Sam
Battlefied 1942

I would get Counter Strike but have slow dial-up for now, so I couldn't really handle the multiplay. I don't doubt, however, that based on what I've heard from-well, everywhere, that it is a great mod for Half Life.
Thanks again, got some shopping to do!

I personally would have preferred to learn to play CS on a high ping, slow connection. If you can get good on a bad connection, on any better connection (ie at a LAN party) you will own everyone!

One of my friends played CS for 2 yrs on a 28.8kbps connection, with a ping of 300-400, and he was constantly in the top 3 in the servers, and he was playing against low ping players too!

Some surprisingly lame choices being made (i.e. boring, but pretty games like UT2K3, U2, RtCW, Jedi Outcast) - oh well, different strokes, I guess...

My picks:

? Unreal/Return To Na Pali/Unreal Tournament - You can get all three for like $20 in the "Totally Unreal" package and they're all fun. The graphics are a touch dated, but they're fun, esp. UT
? Medal of Honor: Allied Assault - Doesn't look quite as good as Return to Castle Wolfenstein, but it's a hell of a lot more fun. (SP, that is.)
? No One Live Forever/No One Live Forever 2: A Spy In H.A.R.M.s Way - Funny as hell, nifty weapons and an armour cheat that says "We've got Death Star!"
? Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force - Great looking and fun, but short.
? System Shock 2 - I never got far in this cuz it scared the living daylights out of me! Graphics are ass, but the sound will keep you up nights.
? Soldier of Fortune - The first one was big fun, but the second is leaving me cold for some reason.
? Grand Theft Auto III - Since you've got some 3rd person shooters, why not get this one? Be a one-man crime wave!
? Deus Ex- Deep story, three endings and you have to THINK your way thru situations. Looking forward to the sequel, "Invisible War".
? Serious Sam - Cheap, colorful fun and as deep as a supermodel.

I'd skip Quake, but Quake 2 is kind of a retro kick. Going back and looking at 5 year old games graphics can be a hoot. (Anyone looked at Jedi Knight's 50-polygon characters lately?)

I didn't look at the other answers . . . yet . . .

Serious Sam and Serious Sam SE . . . mindless shooting fun - great graphics (for a 2 year-old-game)

RtCW . . . (!)

Unreal and Unreal II (the original broke new ground; II is "next gen" graphics)

NOLF and NOLF II (great humor and good innovations throughout both games - II has very good graphics)

Deus Ex (RPG meets FPS - great game)

Thief and Thief II (dated graphics but a GREAT First Pearson SNEakeR)

Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force (the BEST of the Star Trek FPS)

I just got Aliens vs. Predator II for $5 (big box sale at CC) - very nice (so far)

Medal of Honor, and Soldier of Fortune. Those are the only two I liked enough to finish aside from Quake 3 and UT.

Old school DOS goodness, probably won't run well under XP

DOOM 1 - 2
Duke Nukem 3D
Blood

Fun, Windows FPS but doesn't run properly on either DX7-9 or nVidia GF2-4, not sure which is the problem:

Blood 2

Uncle Sam wants you to join America's Army. It won't cost you a thing since it's a free download.

I loved Deus Ex and System Shock 2 ... both RPG - FPS hybrids. Great storylines, great graphics, great gameplay.
