Yeah that makes no sense. Never understood how that is the case, my suspicion is that they’re lying about being a Democrat.
The thing that really irritates me, is how the Republicans always refer to themselves as the “law and order party”. And this is still after January 6th, after defending Trump stealing top-secret classified information and obstructing the retrieval of it, deflect the adjudicated business fraud in NY, the Stormy situation, and the E Jean Carroll verdict. Every single one of those things would torch someone’s political career but they just deflect for a Trump and say some crap about inner city crime.
Honing in on the election lies. It just goes to show how morally bankrupt they are.
63 court cases (with many brought to Trump appointed judges) including the Supreme Court handled complaints from various people/groups and every single one was rejected for lack of standing. Bill Barr of all people said there was nothing. And yet still as in that above image, 71-81% of Republicans think the election was stolen. That is quite literally anti-law. They only believe in the law when it suits their aims.
And out of that election lie, came January 6th, and then another lie, that the FBI set it up lol. Or even during the riot itself, people were saying it was Antifa.
From that Trump has pledged to pardon all of those insurrectionists if he is elected again, calling them “patriots”.
@Dave_5k I think you’re spot on, though I think point 2 is probably most likely for independents. But this part especially I agree:
I typically think of independents overall is center to center-right. But maybe I’m wrong and they’re more center-right, as they seem susceptible to falling for this misinformation and are willing to look past the multitude of unsavory, dishonest, disqualifying, and reprehensible behavior. I mean 43% of independents don’t know or think the election was stolen? This group must be dissociated from the evidence or unwilling to consider it like all those Rs. But why is what I haven’t figured out. Maybe it’s just apathy and willful ignorance, and it’s that simple.
Edit: came across this Twitter thread, and it fits nicely and with what we are talking about right here:
