User over at Reddit had a logical and thought provoking analysis of this news story. So essentially, Don Jr is trying to make this meeting a non-issue and play it off by claiming the Russian lawyer he met with had nothing to offer him and only wasted his time. However, it was Aras Agalarov through his son Emin and Rob Goldstone who set the meeting up. So if you believe Jr's story that nothing significant happened, you essentially have to believe that a Russian billionaire oil tycoon was duped by this lady saying she had "documents and information that would incriminate Hillary," yet in fact only wanted to lobby the Trump campaign? Seems highly incredulous, and ridiculous beyond the point of belief.

He made some other conclusions about the lawyer being a courier to deliver documents from Putin's agents, but those were much more circumstantial. You can read his analysis here if you're interested: https://np.reddit.com/r/politics/co...t_chris_hayes_provides_evidence_that/dk5xerf/

I took some time to look into the details of these claims about the emails, and their author is pretty astute and lives up to his claim to be a trial attorney.

Or in other words, there's pretty compelling reason to believe that Putin has held evidence which can put the Trumps away in actual prison since June last year.

Also, just a correction to your post. The lawyer isn't the one duping Putin's friend if she is still alive. The only possible hole in the narrative is if the Agalarov/Putin was trying to dupe Trump about the documents, which is unlikely given the value of that relationship.

Yes, all Trump voters must be virulently racist Islamophobes because you say so.

Some certainly are. Many probably aren't. I suspect for most it's about situations more than identities. People (of all persuasions) who argue regularly on forums tend to be on the more irredeemable end though. Which is why these arguments are probably more about entertainment and distraction from other things, than they are about achieving anything real. For me, they are, anyway.

I think one thing is clear, that Trump getting elected is a sign that something is going wrong. The problems are bigger than one guy with entertainingly obvious psychological issues.

Breaking News...

Remember that "interview" Donald Jr. had with Hannity where he told "everything" about that meeting with himself, Manafort, Kushcner and Russian government lawyer? Well Don Jr. lied again.

He said he told everything but there was one more person in the room, a Russian lobbyist and former Soviet intelligence agent. Details to come.

I don't remember who said it but telling the truth only requires one version.

And there's the link. So yet another person with Russia ties in the room. Christ how many times is this story going to change?

Besides the obvious, this is one of the key parts for me :
"...Veselnitskaya acknowledged to NBC News..."
This has been the play since day one, help to collude and then make sure its exposed in media the next day for maximum instantaneous gain. They gain cause they got Trump and they gain cause they seed disarray and disbelief in the institution.

If they were this fucking dumb you know there is more.

Also love how Trump exposed his administration staff to legal jeopardy by having them work on the responses for Trump Jr. You get a lawyer, and you get a lawyer, everybody gets a lawyer!

Thing that's kind of horrible is for some reason people on his staff have to get their own lawyers and pay for the lawyer themselves. They can't be compensated for it.

Lololol Donald Trump Jr's lawyer: (paraphrasing): "Big nothing burger, I spoke with the 5th guy, he's an American citizen, he laughed when I asked if he was working for the Russian government! He's not important!"

...5 minutes later: "Oh wait, you're talking about the 6th person in the room, not the 5th person! Whoops, I didn't talk to him, don't know what that guy was about..."

My sympathy only extends so far. These people knew and know what they are into. If their choices bankrupt them because they went to work for an incredibly selfish 70 year old man with a well established track record of leaving ruin in his wake then it's on them.

On the flip side, said young person is exactly who Mueller will dangle a conspiracy charge in front of and they'll flip on Trump et al. in a heartbeat.

Veselnitshaya speaks no English so she needed an interpreter at the least. Jr probably doesn't see an interpreter as a person.

The more the lies build up the more I'm thinking Trump himself had to have been present.

When you think about how this story has unfolded, they are clearly protecting someone bigger than themselves.

Don Jr releases the e-mails to fall on his sword thinking that'd take the pressure off things. But it just ratchets the heat up further. And Trump's own comments on it, basically saying anyone would take that meeting fits with his arrogance. And it strains credibility that this meeting was in his building, while he was there, and he didn't know anything about it. But later that same day comes the first Hillary e-mail tweets.

Obviously I'm just connecting the dots and don't have hard evidence, but it's not a stretch at this point that they're all just trying to protect him and that he was there.

The interpreter isn't the problem, it's the Soviet-born former counter-intelligence official cum American immigrant lobbyist (thanks Obama?) who's the problem!

Jr. was very specific--"the Russian lawyer had no dirt to give"...But he didn't say anything about this guy having dirt on Hillary.

We have an ID on the 'translator'

A Russian-American lobbyist says he attended a June 2016 meeting with President Donald Trump’s son, marking another shift in the account of a discussion that was billed as part of a Russian government effort to help the Republican’s White House campaign.

Rinat Akhmetshin confirmed his participation to The Associated Press on Friday.

Who is this guy?? Well....funny you ask...here's a particularly fun quote:

More recently, Akhmetshin was caught up in a particularly nasty $1 billion legal fight concerning a potash-mining operation in central Russia. While a Dutch court was the main venue, the dispute spilled into U.S. courts when lawyers for one of the companies accused their counterparts of organizing a scheme to hack their computers and other communications.

The man who masterminded the scheme was Akhmetshin, according to a suit filed in November in New York state court that also accused him of being a former Soviet military intelligence officer who "developed a special expertise in running negative public-relations campaigns."

Source was an article written one year ago almost to the day: https://www.rferl.org/a/rinat-akmet...gton-lobbying-magnitsky-browder/27863265.html

He could have been the interpreter. Somebody in the room could very well have said "We can release very damaging internal communications from the DNC, damaging emails from Podesta, deploy internet brigades & state media on your behalf. What can we expect in return?"

That doesn't mean it happened. OTOH, Trump Jr showed up in hopes of something like that. Goldstone led him to believe something like that was in the offing whether it was true or not.

Jr didn't recognize that there's a line between domestic political dirt digging & espionage by a hostile foreign power. TrumpCo & all too many American multinationals are so accustomed to doing business w/ foreign govts that they see themselves as above the law & above the interests of the govt of the people.

But wait there is more!!

These days, most American officials would be reluctant to disclose any connection to Russia, much less a meeting with an alleged former Soviet spy whose alleged role in lobbying on behalf of Kremlin interests was recently called out by the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

But Dana Rohrabacher, a Republican representative from California, openly acknowledges such a meeting with Rinat Akhmetshin.
It lasted between 15 and 20 minutes and took place the night of April 11 in Berlin, at the lobby bar of the Westin Grand Hotel, according to two eyewitnesses and Rohrabacher.
The topic of discussion: A high-profile Russian money laundering case and related sanctions on Russia.

And

Just one week before the meeting, Senator Charles Grassley had written a letter to John Kelly, the Secretary of Homeland Security, describing Akhmetshin as "a Russian immigrant to the United States who has been accused of acting as an unregistered agent for Russian interests and apparently has ties to Russian intelligence." Grassley was requesting "all information" on Akhmetshin's immigration history.
Rohrabacher himself described Akhmetshin to CNN as someone with "an ulterior motive" who is "involved with people who've got an agenda" and has "international connections to different groups in Russia." When asked if he thought Akhmetshin was still connected to the Russian security services, Rohrabacher said: "I would certainly not rule that out."
Akhmetshin declined to comment for this story. He previously told Politico: "Just because I was born in Russia doesn't mean I am an agent of [the] Kremlin."
In the past, he has described his business as "strategic communications," according to a civil court filing. Akhmetshin said his clients "are national governments or high ranking officials in those governments."

It's not even noon on the east coast. Even more smoke billows forth.
