OP ED along these lines:

The GOP plan is just voter suppression at a state level.

I disagree with some points in that article. First, I don't agree that voter suppression efforts do not help republicans. The article notes that traditionally vote by mail has skewed toward the GOP, but fails to mention that this was decidedly not the case in 2020, and I would expect that to be the new norm even after the pandemic is over.

Second, it's nonsense that Trump invented the voter fraud lie. It's been in GOP circles since at least the 1980's and has been used for voter ID legislation and other forms of voter suppression since long before Trump. What Trump did was take a pre-existing GOP lie that conservative voters were already primed to believe, and tried to use it to overturn an election and stay in power.

Good points. I noted it was an OP ED for a reason

Trump is the culmination of a decades long campaign to "take back" America from....American's. There's only one version of the country in their eyes

Yes, this is very true. The difference was in the past the GOP would use lies about voter fraud to try and rig future elections in their favor through voter suppression. Trump’s innovation was to attempt to use those lies to steal an election he already lost.

I agree however we have to accept Moscow Mitch is really smart and accomplished at this stuff, even if we don’t agree with him. I am sure he has a plan. I am sure I’ll never understand that plan.

No doubt he does! However, I suspect it's more of a Hail Mary play this time around than a cunning Machiavellian ploy, since things could go south even if everything follows the script.

He could successfully torpedo Trump without antagonizing Trumpists too much, getting a 'safe' candidate while keeping the base mostly intact. However, he could also rip the party in two, or watch as Trump hijacks things and guarantees Democrat victories in 2022, 2024 and possibly beyond. I'd say it's like taming a wild horse, but this wild horse could turn around and eat the rider.

Which is why they need to pass voting rights legislation as their top priority. Restore strict scrutiny of states to the Voting Rights Act, and more. If need be, they need to end the filibuster for voting rights legislation.

They are 100% too passive and too "nice" behind this bullshit "unity" push they have. 2022 could be a blood bath.

A large segment of the party's faithful have been convinced by constant propagandizing that they are surrounded, that they need to fight back and in a contorted way take back what they already have and had never lost: their freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution.

Yet having been constantly exposed to the fear and hate campaign their leaders have subjected them to, it seems most conservatives feel they're under threat by "outsiders" and home grown "socialist commies" yet in reality they really aren't. They've all been made to feel that way.

Wasn't sure where to put this, but I was kind of shocked yesterday when I learned that the DeJoy cvnt was still in charge of the USPS. Like...this is one of the top 5 unredeemable Trump bitches that was appointed to the Federal government, how the ever locking fuck is he still in charge?

...then I learned that it is up to the presidential Board of Governors (or whatever it's called), to remove a Postmaster General. So, Biden apparently has 4 governors that he wants to swap into his committee, and then one rationally assumes that getting rid of that fucking fascist DeJoy is the first order of business.

This piece of clown shit has intentionally torpedoed the delivery rate from a generationally-consistent national ave. of 96% down to an ave. of 80%, with some counties and states across the country seeing 70% rate. Seventy Percent. This piece of dung is so proudly incompetent at his only task that it's almost like he works for the fucking Trump Family crime network. Imagine that.

Yes, this will be their primary strategy and Democrats are not taking it seriously enough.
The problem is that voter suppression is a built in feature of our democracy and has been since the very inception of our nation. The only real argument is who's votes do we want to suppress.
Is it non-land owners? Women? Blacks? Whoever it is we don't like this decade we have always worked at limiting access to our government from them.

Saw the hearings this morning. Arrogant, and disrespectful is Dejoy's basic mannerism. You can tell he literally hates everyone who is not on his side. The Pubs as usual are on a completely different subject spending all their time about the Post Office being used to fix the election being a hoax. At one point, he said I'm here to stay and you have to deal with it.

While I highly doubt it there are rumblings of Trump wanting to form his own party. I imagine he’s thinking of the branding and how many donation dollars he will be able to roll around in while stuffing his face.
It would be EPIC if at CPAC he announces his TRUMP MAGA Party.

This needs to be done as fast as possible.
Biden needs to replace the trump nominated board with his picks as the current board thinks looie is doing a good job.
To replace the board, he needs his choices confirmed by the senate. Dems have the tiebreaker so it shouldn't be an issue.
Then they can fire dejoy and Biden can put in his own choice.

I don't know if he thought Trump would drift away but I think he is correctly betting that Trump will not be the 2024 GOP nominee. Sure he might say that now but there are a number of good reasons he won't be:

1) He just lost as an incumbent, which is Jimmy Carter territory.
2) Right around this time in 2009 Sarah Palin was the presumptive GOP nominee - how did that turn out?
3) There's a pretty decent chance Trump and/or other members of his family will be under indictment in 2024.
4) I'm not sure if Trump has the appetite for another humiliation like 2020.
5) Given his poor health, morbid obesity, and poor diet there's a non-trivial chance he's dead by 2024.

While I could be wrong (thought he would lose in 2016!) I think there's a strong recency bias in who people think will be the nominee. Three years is a long time.
Sarah Palin didn't have a cult of flag waving brainwashed fools, of which half are ready to leave the GOP for them, and more would consider it. Huge difference.

While I agree she didn’t have the same following Trump has I still remember being at a wedding and looking down at the beach and seeing ‘PALIN 2012’ written in rocks. People loved her.

Yes, her populist following on the far right was quite similar in character. The main difference was that she ran for VP, not POTUS, and her ticket lost, making her rapidly irrelevant. Had Trump lost in 2016 I don't think he'd still have the cult following that he now has.

My USPS deliveries still get a "warning" about how timing can be in jeopardy. I don't see this from any other delivery provider these days. Hmm....

It's the weather, just about half the country sucks. I got that warning from FEDEX for delivery of my adjustable base queen bed. Turns out it's just coming up the west coast from Chino, CA. I thought I had all kinds of time to make it look like a hoarder doesn't live here. It's coming tomorrow. Damn.
