I love how you generalize about Americans and Chinese as if they're just one group of people, all having the same uniform entities. 350 million people in America, 1.4 billion in China, I'm pretty sure there is an ENORMOUS variance among both as to how they should conduct themselves politically and economically. But hey, lets keep things simple and uni-dimensional.

Doesn't their country dictate how they conduct themselves politically and economically?

I can't believe this isn't bigger news. China is now threatening Canada on repercussions if they don't release her.

I have become extremely glad I starting moving to a cash heavy position the last 6 months as the winning is becoming too much to bear.

Yeah, I wish I would have moved more to cash. Market down 500 more points today. Dow down 3,000 points from the high.

I bet he cares, if only because he thinks it will negatively affect him.

I also think he is launching this trade war because he genuinely thinks it is best for America. The problem is that he’s stupid, lazy, and incompetent so he doesn’t know what is best.

Asking Trump to care about something other than himself is like asking a shark to feel remorse. It just isn't built that way. It just eats, swims, and shits till its dead. Same thing for him.

That may get the GOP to reconsider it's position on Trump's impeachment.

Why do you say that? Didn't matter to them with Reagan or Bush Jr (when both were also doing shit that could be considered treasonous), why would it matter to them now when they're even more extremist and many of them are going to step down at the end of their terms? Plus they can always lie and blame the Democrats, because conservatives take decades to figure shit out if they ever do. I don't know that they can use Turmp as a scapegoat because I think him and his pals know too much of their dirty secrets now (or Putin will have Wikileaks publish it). They'll absolutely run the country into the ground to save their own asses. They were willing to just for marginal extra benefit for them and their wealthy owners, so it it comes down to them needing to do it to try and keep from going to jail, there's no question what they'll do.

Nah, he'll just blame everyone else. He's been focused on his own personal gains (most of which come from outside the US), and he thinks he's rich so it won't matter for him. Plus I think he believes that hey, so what if bankrupts us, its not a big deal, he's done it many times with his own companies. Remember he gloated about being able to pull shit like that by exploiting "loopholes" (which is to say by being an asshole and fucking people over).

I'm not actually sure of that. From what I've gathered, it wasn't terribly easy for him to find people that support his economic reasoning, with many having told him before that he's pretty much outright wrong. But, its like he's a dumbfuck teenager who's doing it deliberately to spite all the people telling him he's wrong and stupid. He thinks he'll be fine regardless so he'd be happy to spite everyone just to basically say fuck you to those people.

Trump is teasing announcements on China trade talks. He's openly trying to influence the markets again. I think this is become a much less effective tactic as time goes on and there are few developments except more bullshit. Even his own trade team couldn't agree on what the previous China deal was about and eventually the markets decided it was pretty much hollow.

Oh, I didn't realize that. Really? So the big win is going back to what we had before?
Almost every agreement Trump has made has been the same as what was had before. Everything is cosmetic to make him look powerful. Turn everything to shit, then get them back to where they were and declare victory! for the faithful.

He's accomplished nothing. Even NAFTA was minor tweaks and things that would have likely been able to be obtained without all the nonsense.

Yup. 15% is what China charged the whole world, US included, up until a few months ago when China jacked them up to 40% for the US alone. Trump has successfully ‘won’ the undoing of what he caused to begin with.

I have successfully, in part, un-fucked up something I fucked up because I'm a moron. Worship my dealmaking prowess.

The markets started out with a bang but have drifted down towards neutral since then. Not impressed?

Edit: Now 51 points negative. Nearly a 400 point drop from the highs of the day. Definitely not impressed or see through the bullshit....whichever floats your boat.

The "new" NAFTA really only updates the treaty to make it more compatible with digital rights and trade and all that. Something that wasn't really considered back in the HW and Clinton era.

But of course, Trump wants you to think he had some involvement in fixing everything. Trump is the result of the loud, unread shithead kid in the back of the classroom that wasn't punched in the face enough at recess. When you don't put those disasters in their place at the proper age, you get this nonsense.

Coincidence I'm sure....

Actually, China tariffs were 25%. They lowered them to 15% at the start of the trade tensions and this was because of Trump pushing for it. They then raised them to 40% for the USA in retaliation, but that does not change the fact that the 15% came from the trade war.

One thing is for sure- profits from the 2018 US soybean crop got shot right in the ass. Storage operations are full & operators are gouging prices, too. Giant heaps of soybeans stored outdoors are getting spoiled even as we type. Chinese tariffs collapsed much of their market & other suppliers had enough in storage to satisfy demand, if at a slightly higher price.

People are making money shipping depressed price US soybeans to Argentina who sells their soybeans to China at a higher price. I wouldn't be surprised if they just do something like switching the labels.
