Here's a pretty good take from Slate: "Trump isn’t trying to win over North Korea’s leader. He’s using him to win over you."

That last part is why the intelligence community just loves Trump so much..lol

People are saying!

That's a pretty assertive post, considering you don't know what is actually going to happen. How about some time, before your knees jerk? Things might get better, or they might turn to shit, but don't be so cock sure of anything, at this point.

We don't know what is going to happen, but there is kind of a history here.
1985: North Korea signs Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty
1992: North Korea signs historic agreement to halt nuclear program! (#1)
1994: North Korea signs historic agreement to halt nuclear program! (#2)
1999: North Korea signs historic agreement to end missile tests
2000: North Korea signs historic agreement to reunify Korea! Nobel Peace Prize is awarded
2005: North Korea declares support for "denuclearization" of Korean peninsula
2005: North Korea signs historic agreement to halt nuclear program and "denuclearize"! (#3)
2006: North Korea declares support for "denuclearization" of Korean peninsula
2006: North Korea again support for "denuclearization" of Korean peninsula
2007: North Korea signs historic agreement to halt nuclear program! (#4)
2007: N&S Korea sign agreement on reunification
2010: North Korea commits to ending Korean War
2010: North Korea announces commitment to "denuclearize"
2010: North Korea again announces commitment to "denuclearize"
2011: North Korea announces plan to halt nuclear and missile tests
2012: North Korea announces halt to nuclear program
2015: North Korea offers to halt nuclear tests
2016: North Korea again announces support for "denuclearization"

So, yeah, we don't really know what is going to happen, but if you are going to give me the same promise you broke 18 times before I think it is reasonable to ask for a bit more evidence that you intend to keep it this time.

North Korea Nuclear Timeline Fast Facts
https://www.cnn.com/2013/10/29/world/asia/north-korea-nuclear-timeline---fast-facts/index.html

<snip>

2016
January 6-7 - North Korea says it has successfully conducted a hydrogen bomb test. A day after the alleged test, White House spokesman Josh Earnest says that the United States has not verified that the test was successful.

March 9 - North Korea announces that it has miniature nuclear warheads that can fit on ballistic missiles.

September 9 - North Korea claims to have detonated a nuclear warhead. According to South Korea's Meteorological Administration, the blast is estimated to have the explosive power of 10 kilotons.

2017
January 1 - In a televised address, Kim claims that North Korea could soon test an intercontinental ballistic missile.

January 8 - During an interview on "Meet the Press," Defense Secretary Ash Carter says that the military will shoot down any North Korean missile fired at the United States or any of its allies.

January 12 - A US defense official tells CNN that the military has deployed sea-based radar equipment to track long-range missile launches by North Korea.

July 4 - North Korea claims it has conducted its first successful test of an intercontinental ballistic missile, or ICBM, that can "reach anywhere in the world."

July 25 - North Korea threatens a nuclear strike on "the heart of the US" if it attempts to remove Kim as Supreme Leader, according to Pyongyang's state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

August 7 - North Korea accuses the United States of "trying to drive the situation of the Korean peninsula to the brink of nuclear war" after the UN Security Council unanimously adopts new sanctions in response to Pyongyang's long-range ballistic missile tests last month.

August 9 - North Korea's military is "examining the operational plan" to strike areas around the US territory of Guam with medium-to-long-range strategic ballistic missiles, state-run news agency KCNA says. The North Korea comments are published one day after President Donald Trump warns Pyongyang that if it continues to threaten the United States, it would face "fire and fury like the world has never seen."

September 3 - North Korea carries out its sixth test of a nuclear weapon, causing a 6.3 magnitude seismic event, as measured by the United States Geological Survey. Pyongyang claims the device is a hydrogen bomb that could be mounted on an intercontinental missile. A nuclear weapons monitoring group describes the weapon as up to eight times stronger than the bomb dropped in Hiroshima in 1945. In response to the test, Trump tweets that North Korea continues to be "very hostile and dangerous to the United States." He goes on the criticize South Korea, claiming that the country is engaging in "talk of appeasement" with its neighbor to the north. He also says that North Korea is "an embarrassment to China," claiming Beijing is having little success reining in the Kim regime.

November 1 - A US official tells CNN that North Korea is working on an advanced version of its intercontinental ballistic missile that could potentially reach the United States.

November 28 - A South Korean minister says that North Korea may develop the capability to launch a nuclear weapon on a long-range ballistic missile at some point in 2018.

2018
January 2 - Trump ridicules Kim in a tweet. The president says that he has a larger and more functional nuclear button than the North Korean leader in a post on Twitter, responding to Kim's claim that he has a nuclear button on his desk.

January 10 - The White House releases a statement indicating that the Trump administration may be willing to hold talks with North Korea.

March 6 - South Korea's national security chief Chung Eui-yong says that North Korea has agreed to refrain from nuclear and missile testing while engaging in peace talks. North Korea has also expressed an openness to talk to the United States about abandoning its nuclear program, according to Chung.

March 8 - Chung, standing outside the White House, announces that Trump has accepted an invitation to meet Kim.

Where do you place their threat vs the cold war USSR, 2018 Russia, Pakistan/India or Iran?

There's the small matter of Trump's hatchet embedded in Iran's back, but, uhh, never mind. Trump is offering Kim the same deal.

I think in principle Trump did a pretty decent job. But that's all we really have. If we can measure results with real, rigorous inspections, then I'll believe in some progress. Otherwise, I think that NK having some form of real relationship with the world and seeing any hope of westernization/reunification is good.

What concerns me most is that announcing stopping military exercises came as a surprise to the Pentagon and SK. And we don't have a clear picture of what that represents. If it is truly only military display without actual importance to defending against a possible NK attack, then I'm for it.

But overall we got a "trust me". No timetable, specifics for inspections or results, specifics on our end, etc. The exact opposite of the Iran deal. It makes it impervious to direct attack on any of its details because there are no details. Amazing how that's easier to defend than a bona fide agreement.

Do you say this with knowledge of all the previous agreements NK has made?

This is stupid. Whatever Trump is doing in regards to NK, think of him with Putins hand up his ass.
This is Putin sanctioned work, nothing more nothing less.

so, more evidence that Trump "worked" to prevent the very crisis that he created with his own bluster. Thanks for doing all the work to make yourself look foolish, though.

Do recall that your talking points last year were: "It is all this crazy talk that is needed! Why not try something different!"

Now, it is: "The crisis was inevitable forever! Look how crazy it was last year! Look how Trump fixed all of it on his own!"

I think it's impressive that you can hold both narratives in your head at the same time.

This does not seem like a sustainable strategy...

Fuck you, you arrogant ass. They'd just like the press to go home so they can control the whole narrative (propaganda). Yes the press is the enemy of the people. Why should we unwashed question anything that this admin does.

Sure, but we'll see if there is similar no follow-through on this one. But again I said in principle. In reality, Trump has already screwed up the narrative and offended our allies and military.

This is why "Fuck Trump" sounds so good to so many people. It takes a real piece of shit to tell an outright and obvious lie like this.

Well, yeh, but is just feels good to the Faithful. They don't care if it's factual or not. Trump could shoot somebody.
