It is dawning on Kim Jong-un that the best way for his family and the Workers’ Party of Korea to stay in charge is to make the Korean people as wealthy and happy as their neighbours
If relations proceed as hoped, the threat of thermonuclear destruction that hangs over the entire region will be lifted. The peoples of Korea, north and south, Japan, China, eastern Russia, and all the others who have had to put up with the bizarre and dubious antics of successive Kims, can sleep easier in their beds, spend less on defence and get on with making their respective countries prosperous. It is good for world peace. The fact that it is also good for Donald Trump’s reputation at home doesn’t affect that. It may even be President Trump’s one abiding legacy. It would be a substantial one

Really? Is that how it's going? Should we just give Trump his Nobel Peace prize right now?

Lol

This would not have happened had Trump not stood up to little rocket man Un. He would have still been firing missles and demanding money to stop doing so. Trump said no and that he would face fire and fury if he actually hit anything. Then he put major trade pressure on China. China kept NK afloat with backdoor food, supplies and cash. China backed down and put pressure on fat boy Un.

Un finally backed down, released prisoners and wants to join the world economy.

Trump should get the Nobel Peace Prize..

Now.

I mean no, not really. Trump lied (or his doc did for him) to not go. Blumenthal said he went but didn’t.

But hey, politicians lie all the time. That's what we get to hear in Trumps defense regularly. Blumenthal served in the Marines from '70-'76. I dont know how he avoided any tours in Vietnam for that time frame, and he certainly shouldn't have claimed he went. But to pretend like someone who veritably lies about any number of topics gets to ream others for their missteps is laughable.

Lest you forget how he treats actual military members who served and went to Vietnam:

And just for the record, Trump has been a known pathological liar for decades. You literally voted for it.

Credit where credit is due. Congrats to Trump for two things:

(1) By all appearances he didn't screw this up, didn't give up major bargaining points for absolutely nothing (unlike the last time when he cancelled the joint US/SK military exercises).

(2) Congrats for finally going to Nam-albeit almost five decades after the shooting stopped.

That’s hilarious. And to his credit Trump May have been a bone spurred draft dodger but he didn’t go around saying he went to Nam anyways.
What he actually said his Nam was banging all those playmates and not getting an STD.

That's your boy

Trump exemplifies everything that's wrong with having a man who thinks he is smarter than everyone else in power. He ignored the advise of, well, everyone including his own top advisers because he just knew he could do it. The only thing he has accomplished so far in this entire NK affair is to alienate several allies and give cover to Kim in the death of Otto Warmier with is usual 'I believe the murderous dictator' shtick.

Meanwhile the faithful will praise him for walking away from what everyone else was saying all along. That Kim WOULD NOT denuclearize.

The Shart of the Deal strikes again.

Engaging in the talks was the right thing to do as was walking away from a bad deal. And continuing to have talks is the right thing to do. Diplomacy go figure

Talking is one thing. Legitimizing and elevating Kim while alienating allies is quite another. He's pissed in the face of both Korea and Japan through this entire process.

Today he has also pissed in the face of the family of Otto Warmbier by giving cover to Kim for what happened to their son.

There is nothing in this to celebrate.

It is nice that after getting totally rolled the first time he declined to get rolled again. Still, an actually competent person wouldn’t have been rolled to begin with.

Well, he shouldn't have stolen that propaganda poster from the hotel.

Diplomacy is the intelligent process of informed dialogue with the goal of a positive and defined outcome. None of that was in evidence. This got Trump out of the US for a bit so that was good, but that is the extent of it. My dog could have done as good a job but he might have been on the menu that was served to Trump.

Gosh no deal I never saw that coming.

There will be some kind of shifty deal arriving soon, soon depends on Mueller & how much heat the President gets from the House. Once it starts to detract there will be some sort of shitty deal, that we get some minuscule thing for and NK “Promises” not to build more nukes but it will have trivial inspections.
The President wants that Nobel Peace Prize too much.
