Your google-fu is a 0/10.

To be fair, the "reasons" given behind the change are all muddled and mixed. There's no "official reason" given by anyone, but there seems to be a mixed bag and/or rational behind it. One of the primary being the implied slavery undertone.

If criminal justice reform involves correcting institutional racism then it is a race issue, but I think pointing that out gives Trump too much credit. I think it's important for a President to respect political dissenters. Failing to do so is an affront to the values inherent to our nation's existence.

He doesn't know how lucky he is, Megan Rapinoe could score penalties with Trump's balls too!

So, he just posted this a little while ago.
Here's the President of the Unites States once again attacking a private citizen and demonizing her to his 61M followers.
He basically tells her to "win first" when she was asked the question about "if they won" showing he doesn't know what he's talking about (again).
He then goes on to invite the whole team - win or lose - to the White House. Knowing what I know about the USWNT, I'm guessing significantly less than half, if any of them, would take him up on his offer.
Fuck him.

If Trump cared about disrespecting the flag or the country, he would have resigned in 2015.

Looks like Trump is about to get a lesson on what it actually means to be part of a team.

Yeah - as I said in the OP, I don't think he knows what he's actually messing with, That USWNT is about as close knit of a team you will find in any level of sport. Insult/attack one of them and the rest are more than likely to stand up and defend their own. Trump has NO idea what actual mutual respect and TRUE loyalty is. He's in WAY over his head with this one.

Now watch what happens if they lose against France or any game at this point, as Trump struts around like a dickless pigeon thinking that he distracted them and caused their loss.

"Maybe the weak US women should have focused on the game instead of Trump! See what happens when you suffer from TDS! Trump and America only likes winners, not losers!"

etc

This is my biggest concern. These women better win now.

Louis XIV was the king that made that statement. Perhaps you were referring to Louis XVI with the guillotine? Or was it something else?

For some reason, I was thinking he was removed from power. I got my family members and timeline mixed up by about 1oo years, just ignore me my family history is a fucked up mess of interbreeding and warfare and get times messed up.

This reminds me of an old Stephen Wright joke:

Stephen Wright voice: My ancestors immigrated from Germany. We never adjusted to the time change.

I mean I hadn't even read anything about the details just heard that the change was happening, and it's 100% obvious as to why.

She should go now so she can tell him to his face that she isn't disrespecting any of those symbols, she merely has no respect for him and his actions that have devalued those symbols. Maybe he'll kick her out and it can be a big to-do.

Thought so. Only takes a little "walk a mile in my shoes" thinking to realize it.

Yeah - I mean I get where the thought process is coming from, but it seems an awfully big stretch to me. Because of my credentials (middle aged, white, affluent male), I realize I have no say in the argument though. If that is what the players and their union have requested - either formally or informally - then all the power to them.

I mean, the big difference between owners in the NBA and their players, versus masters and their slaves, is that the owners are paying the athletes MILLIONS of dollars, far more money than 99.99% of people will ever see in their lifetime.

But hey, let's all just leave that out because feelings.

Rapinoe is the shit. Did you see those two penalty kicks? They were precise and unstoppable. I love her action on the pitch. They said she was subpar in the last group stage game but I thought she was great on the ball. I didn't get to see the game against Spain, my recording went bonkers, don't know why. But I did see the replays of the penalty kicks. Dynamite.

She's evidently the most outspoken woman on the team. She's the one spearheading the USWNT's fight for equality in pay with the men. They are far more successful, and I think they're generating at least as much revenue. They deserve at least equal pay, therefore.

Well, you know, feelings really matter. If you're making $30k/year and ecstatic, you're better off than someone making 10 million bucks/year who's depressed. It's the truth.

She is the top PK in women's football and has been for quite a few years. She had a shitty match against Spain but the PK's definitely made up for it, on the plus side for Megan, Alex Morgan also played a shitty match.

Alex may be hurt. She endured a nasty spill that caused her to be held back during group play ensuing game.
