If you're going to have short number-based names, having a letter prefix of any sort is good if only to avoid confusion when describing the quantity that you have, even if the letter is not informative.Can't entirely blame him for finding the US military naming conventions a mite confusing. I also don't understand why it's "F" for fighter, "B" for bomber, and "M" for tanks and rifles, and almost everything that isn't an aircraft. I read it's because it stands for "model".
