Trump bringing up Hannibal Lecter again is so fucking weird. And even more weird by the fact he's bringing up how it's strange the media is talking about him bringing up Hannibal. In his mind him talking about that at a rally's normal I guess lol.

And this dude still has a fair chance of winning the election.

fuck...

Telling about the American population.

Sadly I’d think 10% of Canadians would vote for him over Trudeau. I’d wonder his support in other countries?

I really think maybe the US needs to be broken up into 2 countries with 2 leaders. There's always been beef between the parties, but it's gotten to the point where Trump has said he already has plans in place to challenge the election if he loses. And his supporters believe the only way he can lose is if the other side cheats. If he loses a 2nd time, he won't concede a 2nd time. That's trash.

I feel the damage the GOP has done to themselves by sticking behind Trump so passionately is irreversible. Party before the people has always been how politics ends up, but we've never had a Trump before. If Kamala wins most of the Republicans in office will probably do everything they can to prevent her from getting important shit done. I understand his stupid cult followers believing he's this saint sent to save America. But at least some of the GOP are smart enough to know he's pure evil, and they still back him like he's the one. MAGA is a disease and there are a shit ton of politicians on his side.

I don't follow Canada too much, but from what I've read, Trudeau isn't exactly a stellar leader. But he can't be bad on Trump's level so 10%'s a crazy number.

Yea and if that happened the reds would attack the blue since they would claim the only way they were suffering was due to the blue stealing from them. You do know that most of the money flows from blue states to red states.... in the form of federal handouts.

Encountered some Trump-apologists here recently. Wouldn't quite call them supporters, but they were overly-keen to defend Americans supporting him, doing that "the far right have some legitimate points" weasel-reasoning thing. They weren't even all white guys.

Seems as if hostility to immigration is a really, really powerful force everywhere in the developed world (and even in some poorer countries). I find it a bit baffling - there are things I feel strongly about and many groups I'm prejudiced against (e.g. professional upper-middle-class people, liberals, conservatives, and motorists, to name but four), but immigration barely registers as an issue for me. I suppose I'm out-of-touch with 'the masses'.

And factual or not, I can almost tie the mass migration out of the Middle East to Daddy Bush's invasion of Kuwait. That seems to have set off a powder keg in that whole region sending millions looking for new homes.

I think this Seth Meyers clip deserves to be on this thread.

Aside from Trump's rambling word salad, resident boy genius Dementia Don still doesn't know how the hell tariffs work.

Fear-mongering over immigration is nothing new. I read some newspaper editorials from the 1800s that were just as gross as JD Vance making up horseshit about immigrants eating dogs. Of course, back then that also included the Irish and Italians along with the usual brown suspects as the vermin coming in destroying our way of life.

Some things never change. Appeal to the fear and loathing that people have for the barbarians at the gates, probably the leader of the cave used the tactic to hold on to his chiefdom as soon as there was any kind of grunted language.

I likewise don't see "immigration" as some huge issue. It's one problem among many. Being "out of touch" just means you aren't ignorant like most of the public--who are proud to be that way.

Lawrence O'Donnel spells is out exactly also. Their campaign reporters should go down the hall to their business reporters so they know how tarrifs work.

Sane-washing… I just can’t…

I just said that out loud to myself. I don't think I'll ever use those words to another human being in a face-to-face conversation.

It’s a form of misinformation that poses a threat to democracy.

Based on last election results, roughly 18 million Americans openly want the US Government violently overthrown.
Remember that, next time you weigh whether we are being too harsh on them.

Quarter of Republicans think Don should seize power -- even if he loses...
PRRI also presented respondents with specific situations aimed at measuring their willingness to set aside democratic processes. About a quarter of Republicans said that Americans needed to “ensure the rightful leader takes office” if 2024 is “compromised by voter fraud” — including by taking violent actions. The same percentage said that Trump should “do whatever it takes” to become president if he isn’t confirmed as the winner in November.

Remarkable poll findings in that article.

More Republican voters trust 'local TV news' to report the true election result than trust 'certified official results'? But mainly they only trust Trump and his campaign.
Weirdest of all, they don't even trust Trump all that much - quite a few Republicans seem to be saying they won't trust anybody to tell them the true election result. Which I suppose means there are a lot of them who just don't believe in democracy at all.

It is mind numbing. They literally cannot provide a shred of truth so they go with their ‘’feelings”. America sure has become a nation of whiny, delusional, brats. I mean why not believe the guy telling you your local school is kidnapping children to transgender them for some mysterious reason but can’t afford to provide lunches.

The sheer idiocy of lot of US citizens is breathtaking.

Further weirdness from that poll data - something like 4% of Democrats think Trump should violently seize power if he loses. Got to be either taking the mickey or just misunderstood the question, surely?

Shitlol

I talk ZERO politics with just about everybody except my wife, oldest kid, or my sister. If I used that word with them in a conversation they may think I was dipping into spacebook or Twatter.

Maybe they simply self reported. You know, the great independent thinkers of our time.
