Trump on Wednesday did not directly refer to MS-13 when he used the term "animals" on Wednesday, but his comments came after Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims talked about her struggles in navigating state and federal laws to allow Immigration and Customs Enforcement to "find the bad guys" in their jails and specifically said "there could be an MS-13 member."

That's when Trump interjected: "We have people coming into the country, or trying to come in. ... You wouldn't believe how bad these people are. These aren't people. These are animals."

Why are we even talking about this? Holy crap lol, yes MS 13 are frickin animals. The "bigger picture" doesn’t excuse these people. It’s nuts how polarized everyone has become, people look at everything from a political perspective and have been conditioned to immediately rush to defense or attack mode.

I have no problem with Trump calling a violent criminal gang "animals" except for one thing. Trump himself is an animal. The very definition of an animal is one who is incapable of considering anyone else but himself. Some of these people will commit street crimes. Others will commit superficially "clean" crimes which in reality are far more damaging to far more people. Those in the latter category have no basis to criticize those in the former. It reminds me of Tim Robbin's corrupt politician in "Bob Roberts" when he says, "don't ever use crack. It's a ghetto drug."

Wealthy and/or powerful criminals are not better than street thugs. They may be worse. I honestly think that Trump has no moral high ground on pretty much anything.

No matter what this gang has done, it still does not excuse the president calling them "animals". And it is not only this group. Trump has a history of calling various groups "animals". It is one thing to do it as a private citizen (still no excuse), but to do it in a speech as the president of the US is even more outrageous. I know this kind of talk appeals to his base, but what I really dont understand is the unwavering support of Trump and his racist, dehumanizing rhetoric by the evangelical community, when one of the central tenets of Christianity is that no one is beyond redemption.
