Nothing of real consequence will happen to trump because of the two-tiered justice system Faux News complains about concerning Hunter Biden but conveniently has amnesia when it concerns trump.
As the goalposts continually get moved on this - how would you define ‘real consequences’?

ouch, is musk running interference or is twitterX just that badly run now?
What's the difference?

Fining X is kind of meaningless, you're just getting in line behind all the other creditors and former employees Musk has decided to stiff.

Going to jail until his trial starts would be a real consequence that for some reason they will not pursue. That is the definition of 2 tiered.

I agree that he’s being treated better than the average defendant. That doesn’t mean he’s not facing real consequences.

Ahhh... more indictments in the offing.

Fulton County , Georgia DA is presenting her case to the grand jury next week regarding Trump and his cronies attempt to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia, and expects to come away with more than a dozen indictments, some of which are expected to be for Trump.

Love it. Pile 'em on.

Damn it! I was shooting for 100 and that would only take him into the 90s.

Jailing likely will make him a martyr. Perhaps when he violates orders start seizing the assts of the PAC paying his legal bills. That would likely shut him up.

He's not winning any new believers with this shit, and his brainwashed supporters already worship him. I think a greater danger is "See? You can ignore the rules set by a judge as long as you're belligerent and have money."

Fines? He doesn't pay them, or appeals them. Sometimes both.

Chances that he's going to say fuck it, I'm losing this trial anyway so I'd better just go all in and call for, yep, an insurrection are rising fast. He's at what, day 3 since being indicted, and he's already sounding like a maniac?

Imagine someone who is in trouble for basically treason (I know the actual charges are specific and not that exactly) calling for a treasonous uprising. Sounds ridiculous but I think it may happen and soon unless his lawyers get to him--or unless they are with him in basically giving up on the legal trial and going for public support--like his lawyer going on the news the other day and saying something that on the surface is very bad for his client.

His calls for protests were met with huge crowds of...dozens or less. I didn't think I'd believe it, but the GOP might still ditch him yet if he looks like he's going down. While that would be awesome, it also probably means Desantis who I detest almost as much.

Anyone who doubts he'll call for violence to try to save himself is delusional.

But, the glorious thing about this is that we're likely seeing the feedback loop that he started coming back to fuck his mind up, in that he's likely got right wing people saying how they're ready to go to war for him and all this other, and goading him to call for it. And that's just going to get him in more and more and worse trouble. I have a hunch we might find out the legal requirements of secret service agents for reporting criminal behavior by one of their details.

I echo a post or article I read elsewhere (can't remember where).

He and his lawyers know he's screwed legally.

They are quite literally going to try to goad this judge into throwing Trump in jail. Both he and his lawyers have already been flapping their gums in a very odd manner for people in their position. One of two things will happen:

- He won't be thrown in jail, so now he looks strong for defying and trolling the government
- He IS thrown in jail, so now he looks persecuted and he hopes this will let him cruise to victory in the election. And he might not be wrong. After that, he pardons himself.

I doubt anyone involved (including Trump) is dumb enough to think Jan 6 style suburban irregulars are going to come bust him out. Now, maybe he hopes he can incite a military or police coup in his name. That is the only scenario I can see where he gets out by force, and if things have gone that far, we are basically all fucked.

We have 7 years of this behavior and you think there's something different now or that its weird about them "flapping their gums"?

I am simply flabbergasted at the way that some of you continually refuse to just notice what has been happening right in front of you for years now. And further, that you're prescribing this behavior as though its some form of calculated intelligence...just wow.

I agree with you that he will gladly resort to violence to save himself. He’s also not stupid and this is a deliberate move on his part.

Trump is lazy, ignorant, and incurious. He’s not stupid.

His penchant for self inflicted wounds and admitting to crimes without understanding the ramifications speaks to something beyond ignorance IMO. He hides his academic grades, stares at the sun, has a vocabulary of about 85 words. Roger Stone bragged of Trump's ease of manipulation via suggestion and praise. Guy has a trail of horrible business decisions that incurred incredible record breaking losses. Then there is the trail of horrible policy decisions that makes him responsible for over 763k American deaths, see GAO, Deb Birx.

I'm going with D.) All of The Above.

Money is a hell of a crutch.

Reality Winner was thrown in prison for the EXACT same crime as Trump involving classified documents.

Theft and dissemination.

Over a single document covering Russian interference in the 2016 election wasn't it? Compare that to the damn library of stolen classified/top secret documents dipshit ran off with (then lied repeatedly while trying to keep them, then tried to destroy evidence, etc). Very much the opposite in size, scope and severity. The double standard is indefensible. They threw the book at Winner IIRC. Meanwhile, this fucking traitor backed by a cult enjoys treatment closer to "What book?" The longer Trump gets to whip his base up into a froth the closer we get to some nut setting a witness' house on fire, or worse.

He's had more than enough consideration for the office he used to defile, oh to be a fly on Jack Smith's wall right now.

This is about to get very nasty...

CNN: Judge Chutkan says Trump’s right to free speech in January 6 case is ‘not absolute’
Link
CNN - US District Judge Tanya Chutkan said Friday that she plans to issue a protective order over the handling of evidence in the Donald Trump 2020 election interference case, saying it’s needed to protect witnesses or other interference in the trial.
The former president has a right to free speech, but that right is “not absolute,” the judge said at a hearing Friday.

The Trump US Supreme Court is about to destroy the sanctity of freedom of speech. When this hits the high court, and it will, Trump's justices will put every jury from this point on into danger.

also from the hearing

Trump lawyer Lauro: "We can't ignore the fact that there is a campaign"
Judge Chutkan: "The existence of a political campaign is not going to have any bearing on my decision...I intend to keep politics out of this".

He has mentioned the campaign several times. Judge not amused.

But with this smack down she’s giving, are they going to demand a recusal soon or wait until trial date is set or even started?

lmao, will he be able to shut up?

CHUTKAN WARNS TRUMP:

"The more a party makes inflammatory statements ... the greater the urgency will be that we proceed to trial *quickly* ... to ensure an impartial jury."

Judge Chutkan rules Trump will be forbidden from having a phone, copy machine, or anything else that could create a copy of the sensitive materials while he's reviewing them.

Defense counsel will have to review Trump's notes to make sure he's not copying witness' personal info.

I was talking specifically about how he and his lawyer were acting in the face of felony indictments. Have those been happening for years now?

How someone acts when there are no possible legal repercussions tend to be quite different than when there is. Trump himself has acted rather meekly in court in the past. The things he and his lawyer have been saying recently are in direct opposition to legal direction not to do those things, that is the difference from the previous seven years.
