Do you suppose there has been an assessment that putting a muzzle on might pose a national security risk. Maybe there is a belief that it is better to allow his intimidation to continue than to risk rebellion among his supporters? There has to be some explanation for the obvious level of judicial cowardliness to stand up to him. Personally I think he should be tried by the military at Guantanamo Bay for Treason as Commander-in-Chief.

It should be painfully obvious. Imposing a gag order upon a person who is campaigning to be a presidential candidate for a major party (and objectively speaking has an extremely viable chance to win that nomination) is a huge, huge step-especially when that person is a former president. Any appellate court is going to look closely at such a ruling. The trial judge was extremely smart and prudent to give Trump plenty of warning during which he repeatedly (and without a doubt intentionally) continued his misconduct despite repeated warnings. The trial judge made an excellent record that a gag order was now necessary, and nothing less would suffice to protect the judicial process.

The delay gives a much better chance of her order being upheld on appeal. Sure she could have issued a similar order weeks ago but there is a much better record now to support the order on appeal.
